Orthopaedic Specialist Practitioner/Plaster Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Alder Hey's Outpatient Department, as a Orthopaedic Specialist Practitioner in our Plaster Team.

We are seeking a enthusiastic individual who is committed to delivering high standards of care and a positive patient experience for children and young people. Our team of Orthopaedic Specialist Practitioners work as part of a highly skilled team, providing a comprehensive plaster service to children, young people and their families and contribute to the smooth running of the service.

BOA Casting qualification is essential together with a willingness to expand role and skills in order to meet the needs of the children, young people and their families. Experience of working with children is therefore advantageous, but not essential.

This is a permanent full-time position 37.5hrs flexible across the working week.

Main duties of the job

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to Orthopaedics.
  • Liaise with other health care professionals to facilitate the best treatment for patients and carers.
  • Be able toexplain likely outcome of procedures to children and their families
  • Assess, plan and implement treatments for a wide range of orthopaedic problems without direct supervision
  • Provide patients with appropriate exercises and advice on post rehabilitation treatment.
  • Willingness to expand role and skills to meet the needs of children and families attending the plaster room
  • Attend theatre, X-ray and wards as necessary. Aware of professional responsibilities in the management and treatment of patients.

  • To provide up to date information for patients & families in conjunction with the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
  • To promote Family centre care, at all times.
  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate family centred care & treatment without direct supervision that is evidence based/ best practice.
  • To manage, organise & prioritise workload effectively.
  • To support and teach members of staff within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To maintain 100% compliance with mandatory training and keep updated with professional development programmes, new research findings, role expansion.
  • To prepare and participate in own PDR.
  • Acknowledge any limitations of competence and comply with all professional and trust rules, codes, policies and procedures
