This post will support the Trust's commitment to Somerset's Transforming Care Programme, including:

* Clinical support for the Blue Light and crisis avoidance pathway for people with learning disabilities who are at risk of being detained under the mental health act.

* Maintenance and clinical oversight of the local learning disabilities dynamic support register including out of area patients.

* Liaison with emergency service and specialist forensic health colleagues.

* Specialist inpatient support for people with learning disabilities who have been detained under the Mental Health Act.

You will have a county wide role, and their base will be negotiable upon appointment.

Job responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities, under clinical supervision:

* Support assessment and formulation with service users who have a formal diagnosis of learning disabilities and concurrent mental health problems, who may pose a risk to themselves or others. Such assessment work will involve working in a range of settings. This will involve judgments involving a range of facts or situations which require analysis or comparison of a range of options.

* Support the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans, and Community Placement Specifications.

* Support the development of risk management plans.

* Support the delivery of health and social care intervention/treatment options in a way that promotes equality and respects diversity and the potential need for reasonable adjustments.

* Collaborate and communicate effectively with service users, families, and health and social care colleagues.

* Have a responsibility for recognising the potential for, or signs of, service-user harm, abuse, or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns, and taking all responsible steps to protect the service-user.

* Have a responsibility for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children or vulnerable adults who may be at risk.

* Have a responsibility for recognising own limits of competence and seeking assistance when appropriate.

* Assist team managers and colleagues in service development work, as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • * A degree in psychology (first or upper second).


Desirable

  • * A further qualification in a relevant subject.


Experience

Essential

  • * Experience of working in community settings.
  • * Demonstrable experience of working directly with a vulnerable client group, including experience of working psychologically with people with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems.
  • * Experience of undertaking planned psychological assessments and/or interventions.


Desirable

  • * Experience of developing therapeutic relationships with people who can be hard to engage.
  • * A previous assistant psychology or equivalent post.
