This role is for an experienced nursing leader seeking a position beyond that of a usual NHS management role. The individual will be an astute leader who possesses significant understanding of, and ability to, apply clinical leadership alongside impeccable customer service provision in a commercial environment. We work hard to achieve great things, because we believe you get out what you put in.

The Head of Nursing and Allied Health will be an integral part of the PPU board and will report to the Managing Director. As the subject matter expert for nursing and allied health, clinical safety, quality, governance and risk, the postholder will provide assurance to the PPU board and Trust, that care is always delivered to the utmost standard. This role requires a nurse with considerable experience across all areas of medicine, surgery, education, etc. because the PPU operates as a small hospital within a hospital potentially covering any and all parts of clinical care.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the Managing and Medical Director, the postholder will proactively set, transform and implement the clinical and nursing strategy for the PPU, always employing lateral thinking to ensure an exceptionally high standard of clinical care. An inherent understanding that customers should experience a premium offering must underpin all care, which will subsequently translate into a healthy financial position with maximised contributions and profitability.

The Head of Nursing and Allied Health will provide effective, visible clinical and professional leadership for nursing, therapies and pharmacy staff in theunit. You will be responsible for assuring professional standards, practice and statutory regulations in all aspects of nursing, midwifery, therapies and pharmacy are strictly adhered to thus delivering excellent patient care. 'Leading from the front' is an important part of this role, including visibility at all sites the PPU operates out of on a regular basis.

The postholder will be a natural networker, able to work with others across departments, specialties and geographical locations to negotiate access to finite capacity resources, maximising their value to the greatest extent for all involved. A continuous improvement mindset must be employed so that the status quo is always reviewed with critical thinking.
