This will be a Band 7 post or dependant on Epilepsy Knowledge and Experience, a Band 6 post with progression to Band 7 on completion of Epilepsy based competencies. The Epilepsy Service will provide full training and development into this role.

The post holder will work within an established epilepsy specialist nursing service for adults with intellectual disability. The service is an integral part of a wider multidisciplinary epilepsy team in Nottinghamshire providing diagnosis and treatment of complex epilepsies and associated health conditions through specialist nurse-led clinics, community home visits, and telephone advice.

The post holder will undertake the duties of Independent prescribing or be willing to undertake the NMP course, ensuring compliance with Trust policy and maintain appropriate skills and competency in accordance with guidance set out by professional regulatory bodies.

The post holder will work alongside the Nurse Consultant and Senior Epilepsy Specialist Nurse.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist in the delivery and continued development of a high quality, specialist service to adults with Intellectual Disability and teenagers in transition. The person will work in partnership with epilepsy colleagues in Neurology at Nottingham University Hospitals to deliver a countywide integrated Epilepsy and Intellectual Disability Specialist Service.

The post holder will act as a source of specialist advice and information for patients, carers, and health professionals. The post holder will promote patient focussed care and act as a resource for Intellectual Disability Service colleagues.

The post holder will maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research, best practice and National recommendations and ensure this is reflected in their clinical practice.

The post holder will provide evidence-based training and education to patients, carers, healthcare professionals and social care services.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Experience

Essential

  • Band 7 nurse or Band 6 with at least 3 years post registration experience
  • Previous experience of working with epilepsy within a relevant clinical setting such as Learning Disability Services, Neurosciences.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proven time management skills
  • Experience of safeguarding
  • Commitment to working in partnership with patients and carers
  • Able to prioritize workload to meet clinical deadlines


Desirable

  • Community nursing experience
  • Experience working at Band 7
  • Non - medical prescribing experience

  • Current NMC Nursing Registration
  • Registered Intellectual Disability Nurse
