To lead, develop, manage and promote a responsive, proactive, patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the Community and Intermediate Care (CIC) Division and work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead Pharmacist for Medicine and Emergency Care Division (MEC) to achieve a consistent and proportionate approach to Pharmacy service delivery across all areas.

Contribute to the strategic development and monitoring of the Clinical Pharmacy services delivered at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

To be a member of the senior Clinical Leadership Team for CIC Division, supporting in the development of new pathways and home-based services related to medicines management.

Lead and be a role model for clinical pharmacy services to the clinical areas provided by CIC Division, including all neighbourhood and intermediate tier services.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strong leadership and management for Pharmacy Services to defined specialities within the Community and Intermediate Care (CIC) Division ensuring that responsibilities and decision making are delegated appropriately, that services are managed effectively and that all staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities to deliver effectively against key performance indicators.

  • To undertake the full range of duties of a line manager for assigned pharmacists to include performance management, development reviews, appraisals, SMART objective/target setting, personal development plans, and attendance monitoring.

    3. Motivate and inspire others (both within Pharmacy and the CIC Division) in order to create and maintain a positive team-working environment and facilitate staff retention.

    4. Ensure the Divisions are supported through the provision of appropriate analyses, audits and reviews, suitable to inform decision making, to allow evidence-based service planning and provision.

    5. To work closely with the Assistant Director of Pharmacy - Clinical Services to ensure development and standardisation of medicine policies and procedures, where appropriate, and compliance with medicines legislation.

    Job responsibilities

    Lead by example in all CIC specialisms and ensure systems are in place to assure a consistently high-quality service is delivered across the Directorates, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

    Manage, coach and develop staff within CIC clinical services.

    To lead on the safe, effective and economic use of medicines within CIC Division ensuring optimal use of medicines budget for the relevant speciality and identification and delivery of medication related cost improvement plans.

    To contribute to the delivery of the broader Medicines Optimisation and Governance Strategy across the Trust. These outcomes will be achieved primarily through leadership of clinical staff and the publication and implementation of guidelines and procedures to encourage best practice. However, an active role in risk management, incident investigation and medicines safety are elements of the role.

    To work in conjunction with the multidisciplinary and wider pharmacy teams to optimise patient flow and patient outcomes.

    Person Specification

    Knowledge, Experience and Training

    Essential

    • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy
    • 12 months pre-registration training & experience
    • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacist
    • Minimum of 12 months as a qualified pharmacist
    • Specialist postgraduate qualification - clinical diploma (or equivalent)
    • Experience as an advanced clinical pharmacist with the ability to demonstrate a high level of competence and specialist experience in medicine
    • Experience of education and training at postgraduate level
    • Experience in management of others
    • Expert knowledge of Pharmacy Services including Clinical Governance and Risk Management


    Desirable

    • Independent Prescriber
    • Royal Pharmaceutical Society Membership
    • Excellence or Mastery within the majority of competencies of the management cluster (e.g the ability to successfully deliver at a Consultant Pharmacist level)
