Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a keen and motivated pharmacist to join the paediatric pharmacy service. You will fulfil the role of specialist neurology pharmacist working within our tertiary neurology team within Southampton Children's Hospital.
Southampton Children's Hospital is part of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust - one of the largest teaching trusts in the country. We are a major centre for specialist paediatric services in the south of England, providing acute specialist care not only to our local population in Southampton but for a much larger area, including the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. The children's neurology service provides treatment and longer term management of acute and chronic neurological and developmental disorders such as neuromuscular conditions, complex headache management and epilepsy.
The Paediatric Pharmacy team is well established, providing specialist pharmacy services within multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality patient care. The team is forward thinking and supportive, working together to improve the services we offer to patients.

Job responsibilities
The successful applicant will provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to both paediatric neurology in- and out-patients, providing expert pharmaceutical advice in highly complex cases and supporting patients to get the best from their medicines.
This post also includes:
Attending multidisciplinary ward rounds twice a week. Developing evidence-based treatment guidelines and shared care guidelines in conjunction with specialist consultants. Overseeing the use of high-cost drugs within neurology, co-ordinating the set up and use of compassionate use/early access to medicines schemes and supply of medication via homecare companies. Opportunities to develop a pharmacist prescriber role within the paediatric neurology team. Teaching pharmacists/students and members of the multidisciplinary team. Active membership of the paediatric pharmacy team. Audit and research opportunities.
You must be an enthusiastic pharmacist, committed to team working with good communication skills combined with experience in paediatrics. Previous experience in paediatric neurology is desirable. We are able to provide training and staff development as experienced paediatric pharmacists and rotational staff will support you.

- Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
- Can demonstrate Advanced Stage 1 competencies in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework in relation to medical or surgical patients
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Sound knowledge of clinical pharmacy services acquired while working within a suitable specialty.
