We are seeking an energetic and creative Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist as part of the Staff Psychology Service, offering assistants to all staff working across the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital sites. The Staff Psychology Service was launched on 1st March 2023 and is commissioned to provide a range of evidence based psychological help and interventions to staff, to enable them to manage the sentimental impact of working in the NHS.
The service provides a range of interventions including psychological therapy, consultation and formulation, psychological debriefing and bespoke training. The Staff Psychology Service also contributes to a range of workstreams across the trust and has an important role in highlighting the importance of psychological thinking at an organisational level.
The successful candidate will assist the Lead and Principal Psychologists within the team, providing interventions at a range of levels including the provision of individual psychological therapy, consultation and psychological debriefs, as well as contributing to work at team and organisational levels. There are numerous opportunities to work jointly with colleagues in the Staff Psychology Service as well as with colleagues across the trust.

The Service provides a range of staff support interventions. There is a blended approach to interventions, with the expectation that the post holder will work both on site and remotely as required. The Service sits within the People Directorate, with close working with the Workforce Leads to identify needs across clinical and non clinical areas. The Staff Psychology Service provides proactive initiatives such as reflective practice and supervision and will work with leaders to promote practices to support staff wellbeing. There are opportunities for CPD.
The Staff Psychology Service is comprised of applied psychologists, a counsellor and administrative support, alongside the Senior Psychologist role. The successful candidate will report to the Lead for the Staff Psychology Service and the role will offer a wide range of development opportunities including opportunities to work with the Trust Lead Psychologist, contributing to interventions at an organisational level.

Main duties of the job
- To provide highly specialist psychological assessment and formulation for teams and staff members.
- To provide a range of psychological interventions.
- To provide psychological debriefs in response to incidents.
- To work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and deliver bespoke interventions and resources.
- To maintain an awareness of the impact challenges at an individual or team level may have on the provision of safe and good quality clinical care, reporting all concerns through the appropriate channels whilst taking all reasonable steps to maintain client confidentiality.
- Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provide highly specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management and the high physical risks inherent in the client group.

Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied Psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the BPS including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice.
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees.
- Registration with BPS or UKCP
Experience and Knowledge

- Evidence- based practice relevant to the role of working with people with mild to moderate mental health problems, or working in an Acute Hospital setting.
- Risk assessment and risk management.
- Legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care.
- Teaching, training, consultancy and clinical supervision and field supervisor for doctoral theses.
