Main duties of the job

  • Collaborate with a supportive medical team, including a Consultant Psychiatrist and up to two Trainee Doctors.
  • Utilize your three years of experiece in general adult psychiatry to contribute to the care of female inpatients on a busy acute psychiatric ward.
  • Play a pivotal role in supporting the development of Trainee Doctors and provide cover during the absence of the Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Showcase your excellent team-working, organizational, and initiative-taking skills.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and empathic skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The duties of the post include the physical and psychiatric assessment and review of patients suffering from various psychiatric disorders who are admitted to the ward. Willow Ward has a high rate of admission and discharge and the post-holder is required to review new patients within 72 hours of admission.

The post-holder will work with a medical team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist, ward junior doctor and foundation trainee. They will contribute to the supervision of the trainees and medical students on rotation, and is expected to contribute and support in other clinical duties (senior reviews of newly admitted patients, report writing, prescribing, etc) and writing discharge summaries. Regular clinical supervision will be provided by the Consultant.

The post-holder may be required to work in other localities in line with the needs of the service.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • GMC Licence to Practise


Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to (own specialty)


Experience, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Experience as a fixed term trainee or as a Specialty Doctor on a part time or flexible basis in the field of general adult psychiatry.

  • Excellent communication and empathic skills
  • Timely and effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, carers, colleagues and multidisciplinary team
