An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Aseptic Services Team of the Pharmacy Department applicants are welcomed from registered Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing Technicians.

This is your opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team providing essential cancer treatments to the people of Berkshire. Our Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit currently holds a LOW overall risk rating which was awarded during our last external Regional Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance audit in June 2023.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to support the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit in the provision of chemotherapy to patients within the Trust.

We are looking for a qualified technician to join our small friendly Aseptic Services team. You will have recent retail, hospital or aseptic experience, good communication skills, and knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice. You will also have experience of teamwork, staff supervision, training others and work planning.

We welcome applications from Pharmacy Technicians and Science Manufacturing Technicians who do or do not have prior experience of working in an Aseptic Services Unit. The applicant must demonstrate enthusiasm and knowledge regarding this service. A full training programme will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of a safe, efficient and cost effective Aseptic Preparation Service for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust as part of a multidisciplinary team.

To be responsible for the supervision of activities within the clean room.

To assist in the management of the service as necessary.

Job responsibilities

Key tasks will include the following:To assist and supervise, to a high quality, the safe and accurate provision of a chemotherapy compounding service. To support the roles of and work under the supervision of the Lead Technician & Accountable Pharmacist.

Main duties:1. To assist in the provision of a safe, efficient and high-quality aseptic pharmacy service to the Trusts patients.2. To actively encourage the adherence to all procedures relating to aseptic services and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).3. To have an excellent working knowledge of all procedures, guidelines, and legislation.4. To participate in the writing, review and update of Standard Operating Procedures and other Quality Assurance (QA) documentation.5. To liaise with pharmacists, production staff and QA staff on a daily basis, to help regulate and manage workflow efficiently.6. Participate in Pharmacy Team meetings as required.7. To problem solve at short notice such as stock supply, staff issues, equipment failures, capacity planning whilst maintaining the day-to-day service efficiently and safely.8. Able to work well in a team, train others, problem solve and work with attention to detail.9. Knowledge of cytotoxic handling. Awareness of the dangers associated with handling hazardous products.10. Knowledge of efficient stock control e.g. stock rotation, ordering.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 Pharmacy services or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or SCOTVEC or equivalent and professional registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician
