There is an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric nursing team at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) as a Paediatric Apheresis Clinical Nurse Specialist. This role is within the paediatric service and will be supported by, not only paediatrics but also the existing Apheresis team based at CUH. This role will support the newly commissioned paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Service and will be responsible for all children and young people who require apheresis as part of their care.

Children's services at CUH cares for both the local population as well as those children and young people who require tertiary care from across the East of England. The unit has multiple in-patient ward and outpatient services as well as paediatric and neonatal intensive care units and a critical care transport team. CUH is the tertiary centre for children and young people with a wide range of conditions including oncology, haematology and neurology. This role will support Children's Services as we move into the future here at CUH with the development of Cambridge Children's Hospital.

The post holder needs to have knowledge within this field and extensive experience working in acute paediatric settings, an understanding / experience of the development of patient services, experience of working with children and their families undergoing care for both acute and chronic conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students

Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care

Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area

Qualifications

Essential

• RSCN / RN Child.
• First Degree (or equivalent level) in nursing or health-related subject.
• Teaching and Assessing qualification.
• Evidence of on-going CPD.
• Advanced safeguarding training.
• Post registration qualification in relevant subject.

Desirable

• Post-graduate Masters.
• Independent prescriber.
• Clinical assessment skills.
• Advanced communication skills.

Experience

Essential

• Working with acute and chronically ill children and young people.
• Evidence of having worked collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience of caring for children who are preparing for a transplant OR children with a non-malignant haematology diagnosis.
• Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues / students and involvement in mentorship.
• Experience of managing a caseload.

Desirable
