Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist 22.5 hours per week.

We are pleased to advertise this exciting opportunity for a band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to be a valuable addition to the Oncology CNS team in Bexley Wing.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who has the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

The successful post holder will provide highly specialised nursing care, advice and support to patients diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer, including those on metastatic treatment pathways, surveillance and best supportive care. You will also support the management of a new adjuvant immunotherapy treatment pathway which is being implemented for the first time in this disease group.

Experience within oncology is desirable and you are encouraged to arrange an informal visit or chat prior to applying for the post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the advanced urology-oncology CNS team. Our team cares for patients with advanced kidney, prostate, bladder and penile cancers. The successful candidate will be responsible for a case load of patients undergoing treatments for kidney cancer, ensuring they are assessed and managed in accordance with local and national standards and guidelines.

With the appropriate support and training, the successful candidate will be involved in the completion of holistic needs assessments, treatment/symptom reviews, toxicity management and providing on-going emotional support to our patients and their loved ones. You will work alongside the team in the development of cancer services and nurse led initiatives in this patient group, along with audit and quality assurance projects.

There are many opportunities for learning and development, including attendance at and participation in local, regional and national meetings/conferences.

Job responsibilities

The Jobholder is responsible for the management of a defined caseload. The jobholder carries continuing responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care. The jobholder will provide specialist nursing care and advice to a specific patient group and will contribute to the development of the speciality service. The jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources.

The post holder will work within the Head and Neck CNS team and alongside the wider Head and Neck MDT. They will be responsible for a defined caseload of patients from diagnosis of primary and recurrent Head and Neck cancer to end of treatment providing support management at key points on their journey.

Essential

  • Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post (with reasonable adjustments if

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience at Band 5 or equivalent and experience within a relevant speciality, during which the following experience should have been gained
  • Clinical audit and standard setting
  • Experience and knowledge of specialty
  • Current issues in healthcare
  • Standards of professional practice
  • Understanding of the local and national nursing agenda
  • Understanding of relevant National Service Frameworks (if appropriate)
