Are you a dynamic and experienced Physiotherapist looking for a challenging and rewarding role in the field of acute medicine & frailty? We have an exciting opening for a Highly Specialist Physiotherapist to join our vibrant team and make a significant impact in acute medicine and frailty physiotherapy services at SBU.

About the Role: As a Highly Specialist Physiotherapist, you will play a pivotal role in providing high-level assessment and discharge planning skills within the acute medical unit & front door services at Morriston Hospital. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your clinical expertise and leadership skills while working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. The role extends beyond the acute medical unit, offering you the chance to contribute to front-door frailty services and downstream medical wards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments and deliver treatments for patients with a diverse range of acute medical conditions.
  • Collaborate with hospital and community Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) to ensure timely and effective patient flow.
  • Provide expert advice, leadership, and guidance to the physiotherapy team.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Clinical and leadership experience in physiotherapy.
  • Willingness to join the respiratory on-call rota and work a 7-day roster as required.
  • Desirable: Ability to speak Welsh.
  • English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Main duties of the job

Leadership and Service Delivery:
  • Lead the physiotherapy team with enthusiasm and innovation.
  • Deliver the Physiotherapy Service with flair, and contribute to the evolution of cutting-edge patient care.

Caseload Management:
  • Manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, employing evidence-based and client-centred principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.

Mentorship and Supervision:
  • Provide inspirational leadership for junior and senior staff, offering guidance, supervision, and constructive appraisals as delegated by the line manager.

Collaborative Discharge Planning:
  • Showcase your high-level discharge planning skills by collaborating seamlessly with the MDT and community services, ensuring a holistic and patient-centric approach to healthcare.

Educational Leadership:
  • Inspire the next generation of physiotherapists by educating and supervising students on clinical placements.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD):
  • Engage in continuous learning and development, both clinically and professionally, to stay at the forefront of the field.
  • Respiratory On-Call Participation:
  • Actively participating in the on-call respiratory roster, contributing to the immediate and effective response to patient needs.

Service Development Initiatives:
  • Be a driving force behind service development initiatives, including the implementation of 7-day working, ensuring the delivery of healthcare services that meet the evolving needs of our community.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Physiotherapy (or other relevant qualification)
  • Professional Registration with HCPC
  • oEvidence of post-graduate masters level education or evidence of equivalent clinical experience.


Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
  • Membership of a clinical or professional network


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Substantial broad range specialist experience of working with this client group.
  • Substantial experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Supervision experience of students, physiotherapy assistants and junior staff.
  • Experience in working in areas that are linked to patient flow.
  • Remain updated with advanced professional practice and new research.
  • Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession.
  • Significant NHS experience


Desirable

  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Be able to work in various critical care and respiratory areas
  • Working in the community setting.


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of comprehensive and advanced continuing professional development (CPD), maintained in a portfolio. Including attendance at recent highly specialised post graduate courses relevant to the clinical field/speciality.
  • Involvement in audit, research and understanding quality issues.

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
  • Professional maturity and ability to network and form professional relationships with other healthcare/multi agency professionals.
  • Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for the service, including experience of quality issues and audit.
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes.
  • oAbility to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional and aggressive patients and carers.
