This full time, 10 PA, permanentpost arises due to a re-configuration of medical posts between Taunton and Minehead - 2 neighbouring towns.
The Speciality Doctor will work alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist in Minehead, and both will offer 2 days each to the service.The Consultant will offer appropriate supervision.
There is a small multi-disciplinary team and team manager and medical secretary in Minehead.
For 3 days of the week the successful candidate will be based in Taunton in Foundation House.This is the team base for the Taunton CMHT and is on the Wellsprings hospital site.
Supporting professional activity and continuous professional development will take place within these 3 days.
Main duties of the job
This post provides senior Psychiatric service to:
The Minehead Community Mental Health Team, and service to patients under the West Somerset Home Treatment Team, in the Minehead/Exmoor area. The CMHT is based in the Barnfield Unit at Minehead Community Hospital and the HTT is based in Foundation House offering a service to Minehead patients.
The Taunton CMHT and a small number of Assertive Outreach patients in AOT and both teams are based at Foundation House in Taunton.

The core CMHT works closely with the wider community mental health service and is referred to as CMHS. This consists of therapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, mental health nurses, psychiatrists, and several team managers. We work together, especially in complex cases and where there is higher risk, to support patients and colleagues. This working together includes within patient consultation, professionals meetings, care planning, referrals meetings and multi-disciplinary team meetings. We also have formal liaison meetings with inpatient services planning admissions and discharges. We have a described clinical model that helps guide our service and training is available in this.
