Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit two Consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist to join our Wirral CYPMHS Team within the Birch Centre, Birkenhead. The successful candidates will join the 0-18 partnership team.

The children and young people's care group within CWP has redesigned community CAMHS services in 2022, to allow greater flexibility for the workforce and to improve patient flow through the system. The core features of this redesign included the implementation of a new model of care that separates out Access components (whichincludes new services including the Mental Health Support Teams in schools) from Partnership work. The Thrive model is a point of reference for this framework.

Following redesign the new teams have consolidated into four locality-based services: Wirral, West Cheshire, Central Cheshire and East Cheshire with the Central Cheshire service operating out of two bases.

The Wirral children and young peoples mental health service offer is comprehensive including, an access team, 0-18 team, Eating disorder team, Learning Disability and autism adhd assessment team, Intensive Support Function and MHST (Mental Health Support Teams), and an urgent Support Team with 24 hour crisis line. There is a strong network of consultant child psychiatry peers within the trust.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical psychiatric input to the 0-18 Team
  • To record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, within the Electronic Patient Record
  • To contribute to the out of hours on-call rota
  • To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust's personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
  • To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
  • To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
  • To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
  • To attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
  • To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, and to abide by professional codes of conduct.
  • To participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager, which will include consultation with a relevant manager in order to ensure that the post is developed to take into account changes in service configuration and delivery associated with modernisation.

Person Specification

ELIGIBILITY

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment


Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice


Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.


Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications.

  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
