Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a permanent 0.6 wte (3 day) Clinical Psychologist role (Band 7) at the South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust. The post is an exciting opportunity to be part of the award-winning Psychological Interventions Clinic for oUtpatients with Psychosis (PICuP) based at the Maudsley Hospital. Your role will include:

o Delivering individual cognitive behavioural therapy (and family intervention) to clients with ongoing distressing symptoms of psychosis, bipolar disorder and/or secondary emotional difficulties. This will include specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

o Contributing to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

o Providing clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, particularly to the psychology assistants, honorary assistant psychologists and MSc students within the service.

o Contributing to service evaluation, audit and research.

o Opportunities to be involved with teaching.

o Working as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work with support of clinical supervisor.

About us

About the location:

PICuP is located at the Maudsley Hospital on Denmark Hill; less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide satellite clinics and operate across other locations within SLaM. The post-holder will be mostly based at the Maudsley but will be expected to see some clients at other SlaM team bases in Southwark, Lambeth, Lewisham or Croydon as necessary. Some work may be conducted remotely where appropriate and we value flexible working.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Doctorate level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology or equivalent
  • Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
Desirable
  • Completed training course in clinical supervision
  • Additional training and experience in cognitive behaviour therapy for psychosis either through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma
Experience Essential
  • Experience of psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in adult mental health and particularly with clients with psychosis and bipolar disorder. In particular, experience of delivering supervised CBT for psychosis in at least one setting (stand-alone service, community team, early intervention service)
  • Experience of carrying out post-doctoral research, audit or service evaluation projects
  • Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training.
Desirable
  • Specialist interest and experience in a 'niche' area related to psychosis, in terms of therapy and training provision (for example third wave therapies).
Knoweldge/Skills Essential
  • Ability to deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences.
  • Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groups.
Desirable
  • Research background in a specialist area related to psychosis
