Workforce Practitioner - Band 7 - 6 Months Opportunity

The post holder will support the Lead Nurse for Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Development in delivering the nursing/midwifery workforce strategies, working closely with the Nursing and Midwifery Leadership team, the Assistant Director of Recruitment, Payroll & Workforce to ensure alignment with the Trust wide nursing and midwifery workforce strategies.

S/he will support the strategic and operational development of nursing/midwifery recruitment, retention and career development in line with the NHS People Plan to meet national and local requirements for transformation.

The post holder will be integral in supporting and implementing the vision for new routes into nursing/midwifery including the implementation of new roles and the apprenticeship approach/model.

Main duties of the job

The Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Development Practitioner will be responsible for:
  • Supporting the systems in place to optimize the Nursing workforce
  • Coordinating the assurance process twice per annum (minimum) for safe staffing reviews, working closely with Deputy Directors of Nursing and Heads of Nursing/Midwifery.
  • Liaising closely and work in partnership with NHSP colleagues, in addressing and managing incidents and complaints, securing attendance and cooperation at recruitment events for the organisation.
  • Coordinating recruitment campaigns.
  • Deputising for the Lead Nurse for Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Development at the Education Governance Committee as required.
  • Supporting Nursing and Midwifery workforce planning, as directed by Lead Nurse for Workforce Development.
  • Supporting the development of new nursing, midwifery and blended roles, working within the regulatory framework, to meet patient and service need.

Supporting the development of a strategy for nursing and midwifery recruitment and retention and development, including new routes into nursing & different options for education provision.

Contributing to the development of pathways to support the transition from Health Care Support Worker, to newly recruited Band 5 nurse in the ICFT, through the various educational pathways available to existing staff and new recruits.

  • Supporting Nursing and Midwifery workforce planning, as directed by Lead Nurse for Workforce Development.
  • Supporting the development of new nursing, midwifery and blended roles, working within the regulatory framework, to meet patient and service need.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Educated to Degree level in appropriate Health or Social Care related subject.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in line with professional regulatory guidance.


Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Post Graduate Educational / Teaching /Supervision qualification


SKILLS KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of Nursing and Midwifery workforce
  • Knowledge and experience of Nursing and Midwifery workforce policies and procedures
  • Managerial and professional leadership experience
  • Advanced decision making, problem solving, negotiating and influencing skills
  • Extensive experience as a clinical practitioner
  • Experience in workforce planning and modelling
  • Demonstrates breadth and depth of understanding of current NHS Policy and ability to interpret and implement in practice
  • Experience and evidence of managing change successfully
  • Evidence of using influence and negotiating skills
  • Evidence of successful change management
  • Evidence of managing conflict and deploying successful conflict resolution strategies
  • Ability to work with different disciplines across education, health and social care settings
  • Experience of Implementation of HR policies / procedures and managing complex employee relations and situations
