Are you an experienced band 5 looking for the opportunity to progress to a band 6? A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our department.
This post is suitable for an existing band 5 who has achieved their core competencies within an acute trust, but has not yet achieved sufficient experience to apply directly for a band 6 post. Within this position, the successful candidate will progress from Band 5 to a Band 6 upon completion of transitional competencies within a set time frame. Whilst completing the competencies the post will be static, however onprogression into Band 6, you will join our rotational scheme.
The rotation is well established and offers opportunities within:OrthopaedicsHand Therapy (3 days) Orthopaedics (2 days)Older Persons Unit - acuteMedicineSurgeryHospital Outreach Support Team (HOST)NeurologyMilford Community Hospital

This is a Band 5 to Band 6 transitional post.
As a Band 6 therapist you will also have the opportunity to supervise band 5s and/or assistants, apprentices and Occupational Therapy Students on placement, as well as contribute to our service development.

Job responsibilities
The post holder assists in the development, administration and provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service carries a varied caseload of patients. Managing complex assessment, with predominantly physical conditions and with regard to the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and social aspects of their care.
Directly responsible for the management of own caseload of patients with diverse presentation and complex physical and psychological conditions, referred for Occupational Therapy assessment, rehabilitation, treatment planning and discharge management.
Assists in the management of the specialist team providing, developing and planning an Occupational Therapy service to patients for this client group. The post holder will act as a source of expertise, demonstrating and maintaining knowledge, skills and experience in this specialist role.

- Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists
- Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Further qualifications/study
- Driving licence (and use of own car for work purposes).
- Acute NHS experience
Desirable
- An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT/PT degree students
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction
- Previous experience relating to specialist area.
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
- Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation
- Experience with community/mental health conditions.
- Used to working in a busy environment
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and any other relevant It systems applicable to the applicant.
- Experience of undertaking clinical supervision.
