The post holder will be a key part of the Senior Finance team and is primarily responsible for the overall leadership, management and performance of the Trusts financial management function. The post holder will lead this function on the development and implementation of the Financial Strategy for the Trust and will ensure that efficient, effective and business focused financial systems and processes are in place.

The post holder will manage the Financial Management team, including the direct line management of Finance Business Partners with the aim of developing a comprehensive and effective financial management service. Including, the coordination of the annual budget setting process in conjunction with, and in support of, the Operating Plan and Cost Improvement Plan.

Main duties of the job

  • Day to day management of the Financial Management department.
  • Manage the annual budget setting process.
  • Financial Support and influence strategic and operational decisions.
  • Interpret, explain, and drive financial performance.
  • Advise on planning assumptions, external and internal context, benchmarking, and commercial opportunities.
  • Analyze, advise on, and mitigate financial risk in the organization.
  • Challenge behaviour that does not comply with the Trust SFI's.
  • Develop and maintain the financial management departments level of expert knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified accountant through a recognised CCAB qualified and/or equivalent costing experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional and management development


Desirable

  • oAttendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days)


Knowledge

Essential

  • NHS Costing regime
  • Expert knowledge of strategic and policy background, performance management and financial framework of the NHS
  • Project management
  • Expert knowledge of a range of financial disciplines, i.e. financial accounting, management accounting, capital accounting
