We have an exciting opportunity for a Psychological Therapist to work with adults in our Long-Term Condition Faculty. The successful candidate will work alongside other psychologists and health professionals in our MDT Adult Weight Management Team and the Chronic Fatigue Service.
The Adult Weight Management Service
The Adult Weight Management Service is a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychologists, dietitians and an endocrinologist. The successful post holder will be involved in delivering evidence-based interventions, including 1:1 support and delivering groups. We have a very supportive team with close MDT working supervision and managerial support.
The North of Tyne Chronic Fatigue Service
This multi disciplinary rehabilitation team work with our medical colleagues in the RVI. The team carry out evidence based individual and group work.
We work with people living with ME/CFS and are based in the NHS Molineux Street NHS Centre in Byker. We work closely with our medical colleagues in the RVI. The team consists of clinical psychologists, a psychological therapist and physiotherapists. Individualised assessments, formulation and psychological therapies are provided, including CBT, EMDR, ACT, and CFT. This delivered within a fatigue management approach. Group work will also be involved.

- A Doctorate inClinicalPsychologist, Counselling Psychology or doctoral level Applied Psychologist (Health).
- Training in models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- HCPC registration.
- Doctorate level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
- Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings.
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course with presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.

- The post holder will provide a timely adult mental health assessment. They will offer effective signposting as required and will deliver evidence based psychological therapies to those identified as experiencing common mental health problems.
- The post holder will offer training, liaison and consultation to colleagues within the Psychology in Healthcare Service to contribute to the improved delivery of psychological therapies across the acute trust and primary care in Newcastle and support the implementation of local protocols.
- The post holder will operate as part of an integrated Psychological Therapies Service and will liaise with Community Mental Health Teams and other specialist Mental Health Services.
- Deputise for locality co-ordinator when necessary.
- Post holders will provide clinical and case management supervision.
- Will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages using interpreters where necessary
- They will also be required to provide supervision to other staff as appropriate.

- Delivering specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of patients within afatigue and weight management approach.
- Maintaining an individual caseload with patients across a range of clinical severity and working with patients who may need to pace their engagement in treatment dependent onsymptom or conditionseverity.
- Showing professionalism when working with patients who may become distressed in the face ofongoing difficulties with their health.
- Being aware of the challenges and potential stigma faced by patients with long-term health conditions.
- Consideration of barriers to engagement e.g., English is not a 1st language, social deprivation.
- Undertaking triage which involves significant clinical decision-making when assessing referral and clinical information and deciding the appropriate treatment either within the service or signposting to a relevant service.
- Contributing to MDT meetings and participating in effective multidisciplinary teamwork.

- Contributing to service development and the Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives within the service.
- In weight management, helping the team in reducing inequalities in the care we provide to people living with obesity.
- Support the weight management team to collate data, to aid the evaluation of the evolving service. This includes expanding to offer a drug treatment pathway.
Group work/Teaching and Training
- Able to deliver psycho-educational material, and content on fatigue management and adjustment for patients.
- Delivering groups with content on disordered eating, emotional eating, and behaviour change.
