This is a fixed term/secondment vacancy until 30/06/2026 to meet the needs of the service

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with evidence of working in respiratory care. They will be part of a team that supports primary care in relation to Asthma care. This post is for a two year fixed term and 22.5 hours a week.

The post holder will support practice nurses in a way that is appropriate for each individual practice. In secondary care they will support the severe asthma service.

Support for primary care will be lead by the use of the All Wales guidelines.

The post holder will also attend the all Wales asthma MDT presenting patients if necessary and will initiate biologic therapy on those patients who are deemed appropriate.

Patients who are identified in primary care who are deemed as potential biologic candidates will be discussed with the severe asthma lead and investigations initiated prior to review in clinic.

Across the interface they will support innovations in respiratory research.The post holder is required to ensure good links between primary, community and secondary care services are upheld to support the asthma patient's journey through their care pathway.

Main duties of the job

Hywel Dda University Health Board are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic nurse to join the Interface Asthma Nursing Team. The Interface Asthma Nurse Specialist role will be working with primary care and linking to the Difficult Asthma Clinic.

The successful applicant will be expected to : -

Lead and promote integration of asthma care between primary and secondary care using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan implement and evaluate.

Undertake detailed assessment of patients with Asthma, interpretation of appropriate investigations and the formation of a plan of care.

Review registers for people with asthma and ensure accurate diagnosis.

Provide appropriate follow-up and referral to other members of the Multi-disciplinary Team.

To perform a range of diagnostic respiratory investigations, including peak flow measurements, FENO, spirometry and airway reversibility studies.

Practice at an advanced level with autonomous clinical decision making, advanced clinical skills, assessment and exercising independent or delegated prescribing rights where local and national legislation and competency exists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Nurse Part 1 NMC register
  • Holder of a degree or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
  • Recognised advanced level respiratory course to Masters level
  • Non-medical prescriber
  • Expert knowledge in the field of respiratory care and demonstrable practice, in particular Asthma


Desirable

  • ARTP accredited Spirometry certificate
  • Advanced Inhaler Technique training
  • Teaching qualification
  • Published work
  • Involvement in change management
  • Good Clinical Practice Certificate for research


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post registration experience including experience in respiratory care
  • Use of FENO testing as part of the patient assessment


Desirable

  • Primary and secondary care experience
  • Experience of undertaking audits, writing reports and presenting to groups of health and social care professionals


Language Skills

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
