The role is to provide management and leadership for the Blood Sciences Division across the ESEL Pathology network, including potential expansion of the pathology network.
The Blood Sciences Divisional Manager is a member of the Pathology Partnership's Senior Leadership Team and will collectively provide leadership, drive and direction for the effective operational management and strategic direction of the Pathology Partnership.
The Blood Sciences Divisional Manager is accountable for leading and managing the delivery and development of the Blood Sciences service (Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry, Immunology and Clinical Transplant Laboratory) across all seven Pathology Partnership sites. The role is also responsible for leading and managing the delivery and development of Central Specimen Reception at all Sites.
Main duties of the job
Management and Leadership, The post holder will liaise both internally and externally for any operational issues with Blood Sciences across the Partnership including liaising with Divisional Directors, Consultant Medical & Nursing Staff, other key clinical staff, site and operational managers, GPs and ICBs.
Service Development, In conjunction with the Pathology Partnership Management Team, the post holder will be responsible for identifying service pressures and devising decisive and timely action plans or business cases/plans as appropriate.
Financial, In collaboration with the Finance Director, the post holder will be accountable for the delivery of Blood Sciences services within the Pathology Partnership expenditure budget and, in conjunction with the Pathology Partnership management team, ensure that all areas of departmental activity are appropriately costed and invoiced.
Quality and Governance, The post holder will be accountable for ensuring full accreditation of all areas of the Blood Sciences Division with UKAS and any other accreditation and regulatory bodies, working in collaboration with the pathology Partnership's Quality and Governance Team.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the Blood Sciences Division meets all quality targets including turnaround times, all key performance indicators within Service level Agreements and the content and consistency of test results.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.
The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.
Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services Immunology Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology Immunophenotyping Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.
The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. �126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE.
