An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Lead to come and be part of our Children's and Families Division supporting our CAMHS inpatient units and Swanwick Lodge secure children's home.
Are you compassionate and passionate about delivering care to those in need? Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people in our care? If yes, then come join our service and deliver quality interventions to our young people across our units.
Working as a Speech and Language Therapist, you will be part of an inclusive and supportive team that works together to provide care to adolescents admitted to our services. We are looking for passionate, dedicated and highly motivated individuals to be part of our person focused teams. You will act as a positive role model who delivers the philosophy of the unit and the values of the Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested and committed to delivering excellent care within a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
Main duties of the job
To provide Speech and Language Therapy to young people aged between 10 and 18 years admitted to the Trust's CAMHS Inpatient Units and Secure Childrens Home, who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties, and may also pose a risk to themselves and/or others.
To manage a caseload of young people using evidence based/person centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, maintaining associated records in a clinically autonomous manner.
To support the young people to engage effectively in their admission by educating and training the multi-disciplinary team to understand their speech, language and communication needs, and how to address them.
To supervise/appraise the work of less experienced Speech and Language Therapists, support workers and students, and monitor implementation/effectiveness of interventions delegated to other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
To guide the development of a generally communication-supportive environment within the Inpatient Units.
To work independently and be accountable for their own professional actions.
To participate in defined service projects, evidence based practice/research and clinical audit as required.
About us
Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.
As a Trust, our footprint spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities.
- We function as a unified team, placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.
- Our 7,000+ workforce is skilled and diverse, with a deep commitment to ongoing staff development. We offer customised training, leadership pathways, and a plethora of career opportunities.
- We respect and listen to your thoughts, ideas, and concerns via well-established network of staff groups to increase awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Building on all this, we are currently working closely with other local NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Our new organisation is set to launch in April 2024 and will incorporate Southern Health, Solent, Isle of Wight and Sussex Partnership Trusts.
While the new Trust will be substantially bigger, it will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, streamlining services and making healthcare across the county more accessible.
