Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in partnership with the Cath Lab Manager/ Senior Staff Nurse in the smooth and efficient running of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory(Cath Lab) service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, providing high quality skillednursing care to patients undergoing cardiac procedures.
The post holder will perform scrub, circulatory and recovery nurse duties pertaining todiagnostic, interventional and pacing procedures in the cardiac cath lab.
The post holder will work with team members in the deliverance of high qualityevidenced based patient care in a busy and diverse clinical area.
The post holder will provide support and mentorship for students and junior nurses.
The post holder should be able to work shift patterns to meet the demands of thecath lab service.

Job responsibilities
Take responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care from admission to discharge.
Be aware of current advances in clinical care and be able to facilitate the team members in implementation of evidence-based practice.Take an active role in the continuing development and use of protocols and standards for nursing care.
Participate in audits and research development within the department and incorporate appropriate findings into practice.
Understand the need to adapt and change practice/working patterns to meet growing demands of the cardiology/cath lab service to meet National policy and objectives.
Ensure awareness and understanding of service delivery and operational policy relevant to the area.
Promote and maintain a safe and pleasant environment for self, patients, visitors, and staff.
Report incidents to the manager/nurse in charge and complete online incident report form.
Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with hospital policy and legislation (Information Governance).
Maintain a professional and responsible image of self and team at all times.
Maintain patients privacy and dignity at all times and respect their individual needs.
Undertake the role of scrub, circulatory and recovery nurse duties pertaining to diagnostic, interventional and pacing procedures in the cardiac cath lab.
Undertake/Assist in the role of cath lab co-ordinator, using organisation and interpersonal skills.Perform comprehensive patient handover to cath lab staff, ward staff and other key staff to maintain safe patient care.
Establish and maintain clear verbal and written communication with the multidisciplinary team to promote patient focused care.
Check the readiness for use of emergency / special equipment and ensure all equipment in use is in good working order.
Have knowledge of recording relevant patient / nursing data on to computer ensure all documentation is completed accurately and clearly, in line with theTrust policy and NMC Guidelines for Record Keeping.
Accept responsibility for the administration, care, and custody of medicines, in accordance with legal requirements and NMC and Trust Guidelines on drug administration.
Attend all mandatory annual updates and maintain knowledge of relevant policies.
Have knowledge and understanding of all relevant Trust policies, including the Major Incident Plan, ensuring that junior colleagues are aware of such policies
Have knowledge of and adhere to relevant parts of national legislation, including Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, and Moving and Handling Regulations.
Have a working knowledge of Radiation Protection and local rules ensuring these are followed for the protection of self, patients, visitors and staff.
Use of personal protective equipment and additional protective clothing when appropriate (including radiation protective clothing).
Transport people and / or items safely and to time consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
Ensures all biomedical investigations and interventions are undertaken safely and in a timely manner, reporting and documenting results appropriately and in line with legislation, policies and procedures
