Rotational Midwifery Sister - Various Hours Available - Permanent - Band 6
We have exciting new opportunities for dynamic and motivated NMC registered midwives to join a welcoming team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.
The applicants will demonstrate experience in all aspects of midwifery and have the ability to work with us across our services in community midwifery, antenatal, consultant and midwife-led intrapartum, and postnatal care.

SECTION 1- MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL:
Ensure the delivery of evidence-based midwifery care by providing expert clinical assessment, care planning, care delivery, care evaluation and clinical advice in accordance with NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and Code of Professional Conduct. Working in accordance with the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and Code of Professional Conduct competently undertake expanded roles, and assess the competence of other clinical staff to do so, to enhance the delivery of patient care, e.g. venipuncture, intravenous cannulation and intravenous drug administration. Use own clinical judgement to initiate appropriate midwifery interventions and call for medical support when required. Acts as a clinical role model, ensuring clinical expertise and practice is enhanced in normal and high risk pregnancies, births and the puerperium. Plans, implements and evaluates care. Supports junior staff in this capacity. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records and ensure that all records relating to patient care are clear, concise and legible in accordance with the NMC Standards for Records and Record Keeping . In liaison with the Matron and other professionals lead the development and implementation of relevant clinical guidelines and policies. Ensure adherence to the Trust Medicines Policy and the NMC Standards for the Administration of Medicines . Participate in audits of practice and clinical effectiveness in accordance with Divisional audit plan. Lead specific areas of practice development in accordance with local and national policies and strategies to improve patient care. Participate in benchmarking and audit activity within the clinical area and implement identified actions. Actively manage risk within the clinical area in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and risk management policy. Ensure the availability of appropriate patient information. This should be responsive to communication barriers, for example, language barriers or disability, such as hearing loss or visual impairment. Work within Data Protection and Caldicott requirements for information sharing. Liaise with the Named Midwife or the Named Nurse for Safeguarding To work as part of a continuity team and undertake on calls when required in line with the trust guidance
SECTION 2- KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Possess expert clinical knowledge appropriate to area of responsibility. Utilise own clinical expertise and knowledge to create and promote an environment conducive to meeting the educational and developmental needs of all clinical staff. Demonstrate knowledge of staff and resource management Use professional judgement and initiative to promote safe practice and respond appropriately to arising situations involving more senior colleagues appropriately. Knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding Children and Adults application of legislation invoking appropriate policy as required.
SECTION 3- EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT
Partake frequently in tasks requiring physical effort for short periods. Deal with bodily fluids on a daily basis. Manage and participate in distressing situations on a daily basis. Maintain contemporaneous patient records at all times. Occasionally prepare reports for the Team/ Ward/Department Manager, Matron or DNM. Concentrate for long periods, and respond to unpredictable patient and staff demands.

- Provides a full range of health education and social care advice to women within an integrated model of care.
- Provides care through the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods for women and their babies in a hospital or community setting.
- To support the Team/ Ward/Departmental Manager in the effective management of the clinical area.
- To always act in a manner consistent with the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and Code of Professional Conduct, carrying out his/her duties in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- To lead, support, supervise and teach staff.
