The Practice Educator post-holder should possess excellent clinical skills in the field of Cardiothoracic surgical Nursing and have worked in a Senior Staff nurse position demonstrating these skills on a day to day basis. Excellent communication and managerial /organisational skills are essential in addition to proven teaching and assessing skills.
The role involves working closely across wards & departments, with the ward managers, current education team, Matron, and other key departments staff.
The successful candidate is expected to promote within Alex Ward a learning environment that optimises each staff members clinical development and facilitates a 'best practice' principle for patient care that, whenever possible, is evidence based.
You will be able to provide specialist nursing advice across the Hospital group to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets and Hospital guidelines.

Main duties of the job
To work alongside members of nursing staff and Healthcare working staff supporting them in learning core skills and behaviours, new skills and taking on new roles and responsibilities. This involves undertaking an assessment of their competence when taking on these new skills, providing feedback to the ward managers and modern matron in addition to the individual nurse concerned. To be responsible for the continuing specialist professional development and overall performance of all staff on Alex Ward in conjunction with the ward managers and department leads. Provide specialist nursing advice Hospital group wide, to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets. To develop leadership strategy to ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.

- To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the Ward/Department and Hospital group / Trust wide.
- With the Ward Managers, Modern Matron, and fellow clinical practice educators, monitor the quality of nursing care and action audit information to achieve agreed standards and take the lead on customer care initiatives.
- Maintain study leave records and particularly monitor mandatory training such as Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, and Fire Training.
- Work clinically with staff according to their needs on Alex Ward.
- Co-ordinate induction and orientation programmes with the Ward Managers.Takes the lead in ensuring the provision of care is in accordance with the Hospital groups Polices & procedures.
