An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to join CNWL Health & Justice Services.

We are looking for a Consultant who is passionate about manging a complex and challenging group of patients with forensic and rehabilitation needs in a community setting. The Post Holder will be an outstanding clinical leader to the mental health team, and would ideally suit a clinician who enjoys dynamic risk management.

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will be a member of the Consultant body in Health & Justices who work across a variety of criminal justice and health settings. The Consultant workforce actively contribute to quality improvement, research and academic activities, and regularly meet to discuss clinical and professional priorities.

The Post Holder will work in a MDT setting, there is a junior doctor in the Team. The Postholder will run outpatient clinics for severe mental disorders, and attend the Team Meeting to provide specialist advice and input. The Postholder will work closely with the GP to manage the interface between primary and secondary care. The Postholder will receive regular supervision from the Clinical Director.

The Post Holder has the option of a flexible and remote working pattern, and the option to renew the Contract after 12 months.

The Post Holder has the option of additional programmed activity/clinical sessions as agreed with the Clinical Director.

The Team base is Pall Mall Centre for Mental Health in North Kensington. The Post Holder will provide medical care for patients in the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. The Post Holder will work collaboratively with colleagues in local community and inpatient services, and with our partners in secure services at West London Trust across inpatient setting and Specialist Community Forensic Team SCFT). The Post Holder will have an exciting opportunity to shape services in the North West London following the joint mobilisation of SCFT between WLT and CNWL.

Job description Job responsibilities

The clinical duties outlined are aimed at the provision of a high quality health service and include:
  • Psychiatric outpatient clinic and home visits
  • Responsible Clinician for Conditional Discharge Patients, including reporting to MOJ Conditional Discharge Reports
  • Responsible Clinician for Community Treatment Order
  • Assessment (including the assessment of risk), treatment, care planning and multiagency liaison for people with mental health problems.
  • Undertake Mental Capacity
  • Contribute to planned emergency
  • Liaison with prisons, courts, statutory and non-statutory agencies, concerning all aspects of the mental health care management of residents with mental health problems in the prisons.
  • To work closely with the Manager, Psychologists and other lead professionals to provide clinical leadership and ensure safe, supportive
  • To liaise closely with other medical, clinical and managerial staff to provide high quality care
  • Participation, when relevant, in the ACCT (self-harm / suicide prevention) in accordance with NICE and other relevant Guidelines and CNWL Trust policy.
  • Accurate record keeping according to Trust and professional guidelines (data protection legislation and information governance standards).


Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Additional clinical qualifications
ELIGIBILITY Essential
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Essential
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho- social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Desirable
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
  • Management experience
  • Membership of committee / relevant regulatory body
