This is an exciting opportunity to manage the Financial Services' Cashiering function. The Chief Cashier will be responsible for a team of 6 Cashiers and 2 Senior Cashiers coordinating them to ensure all 5 Cash Offices are sufficiently staffed throughout the day. This role can be based at either Worthing, Chichester or Brighton depending on the successful applicant.

The Chief Cashier will work with the Manager of Financial Services & External Service Contracts to ensure that internal controls are robust and sustainable, that the Trust meets its obligations with regards to cash control and that all processes and controls support the Trusts' internal and external reporting requirements.

They will also represent finance at management and operational committees when required and will work with the finance and other senior managers to ensure that the Trust meets its financial targets.

Main duties of the job

The Cashiers team is part of the Financial Services team. Financial Services consists of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit Control and Cashiers. The successful applicant will work closely with the other Financial Services team leaders.

Job responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of the 5 Cash Offices
  • Manage and oversee the trusts banking arrangements
  • Ensure the accurate and timely recording of cash receipts and payments
  • Ensure monthly and yearly Cashier closedowns are coordinated and communicated in a timely and effective manner
  • Manage the recruitment and retention of the Cashier team, ensuring adequate cover is maintained and that the team operate in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures

Experience/Qualifications

Essential

  • AAT qualified or Foundation level professional accountancy qualification (certificate level)


Desirable

  • Studying for a CCAB accountancy qualification final level


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge and expertise across one or more specialised areas including management, advises finance and non-finance managers on matters relating to their own area, providing detailed advice and guidance. Knowledge, experience and expertise in finance management and staff management.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the key financial performance targets of the NHS
