The Northern Cancer Service is delighted to be recruiting for a Clinical Psychologist to join the team.
Aspects of the role include:
The post holder with develop the Psychology Service which will complement the current established counselling service available to patients at North Devon District Hospital.
There is another Psychologist based in Exeter working in the Cancer Service and you will work closely together.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as a Macmillan Clinical Psychologist with our Northern Cancer Service at Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH). The role is supported and funded by Macmillan.
It is a part of an 18 month pilot project scoping the need and developing a pathway for psychological support and offering people support at different points in their cancer journey. The aim of the project is to embed psychological provision within the cancer service and secure longer term funding for the service. As part of the post, the post-holder will work with patients and team members to evaluate the service.
The successful post holder will be supervised by the Lead Clinical Psychologist. You will be responsible to the Northern Clinical Matron/Lead Cancer Nurse. There is a local and national network of Psychologists working in Health and Cancer and you will be encouraged to seek support and take an active role within these groups. You will also have close links with Macmillan.
We have some links with Exeter University where there is an established Clinical Psychology training course and opportunities to offer trainee clinical psychologist placements.
The post can be based at the Eastern and/or the Northern site and the role supports a blend of remote and on-site working.
Working Pattern: 30 hours per week. The post holder will primarily be based Barnstaple although cross site working in Exeter may be required. We recognise the challenges that have been highlighted in recent years and we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for our patients, for us, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement whether thats a job share, part time or another flexible pattern, alongside remote working. If it works for our service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

Aspects of the role include:
- Develop and establish a specialist psychology service which will complement the current established counselling service available to patients at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH). It is anticipated this service will support those in hospital as well as outpatients.
- Provide clinical support and supervision to others as required, for example, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Allied Health Professionals, as well as the teams based on our Seamoor unit and our wellbeing centre the Fern Centre. This would include team debriefing sessions as required.
- Developing information and self-management advice accessible to all, on topics relevant to the role, as appropriate
- Provision of individualised psychology assessments and psychological therapy.
- Working with the clinical team to support them in the psychological factors around care and their work with patients.
