An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior nurse to join the Specialist Medicine Directorate in the role of Matron. This post will complement the existing Matron role within the Directorate.
The Directorate is comprised of 7 clinical services across the four hospital sites. The applicant will need to demonstrate senior nursing experience within an interest in Specialist Medicine. An interest in Respiratory and Infectious Diseases is also desirable.
The post holder will demonstrate experience of delivering against key quality and performance targets and will have strong communication, management and leadership skills. Attention to detail is required with the ability to work to tight deadlines, manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively across multi-professional teams is essential. We are looking for an experienced and talented nurse leader with a commitment to delivery of high quality patient care to join the Directorate and to play an integral part in the further development of our services.
The role will initially cover Respiratory and Infectious Diseases across 3 sites - The John Radcliffe Hospital, the Churchill hospital, and the Horton General Hospital. The post also has responsibilities as Matron on call for the division of Medicine Rehabilitation and Cardiac (MRC) on the John Radcliffe site, which is a role covered 7 days a week.
Interview will involve both a technical interview, a values based Interview and an assessment.
Main duties of the job
To provide guidance, support, and professional leadership to all nursing staff.
To be highly visible, approachable and to be available to respond to patients, relatives and the public maintaining open and honest communication channels.
To monitor clinical standards, evaluate patient care, ensuring practice is evidence based and that clinical guidelines and care pathways are developed and implemented.
To report to the Nurse Director concerns regarding quality or professional practice.
NB: Quality includes safety, effectiveness and patient experience.

In conjunction with the Directorate General Manager the post holder will work across organisational boundaries to ensure appropriate services are in place and to deliver national and local strategic and operational service objectives and standards. The Matron is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the Clinical Directorate, delivering key quality, performance and financial plans, achieving key service improvements within the Clinical Directorate and line managing designated staff. The post holder will provide professional and management leadership to all nursing staff in the Clinical Directorate in order to achieve the Trusts corporate objectives and will be expected to make a positive contribution to the delivery of health care across the local health community.

- Relevant professional qualification (RN Adult)
- Educated to degree level in relevant field or equivalent level of management experience.
- Substantial experience of operational and strategic management in an acute hospital setting in a senior nurse role across a range of inpatient and day case services
- Knowledge and experience of leading significant change, delivering tangible and sustained improvements
- Experience of developing business and workforce plans in line with future service requirements
