Job responsibilities

Cath Lab Manager: Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Relationships

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Leadership and Staff Management:

Help to recruit, train, and supervise cath lab staff, including nurses, technologists, and support personnel

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.

- Operational Oversight:

Schedule and coordinate daily procedures to optimize patient flow.

Ensure the maintenance and proper functioning of all cath lab equipment.

Implement and monitor protocols to enhance efficiency and safety.

- Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Develop and oversee quality assurance programs to ensure high standards of patient care.

Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain adherence to standards.

- Patient Care Coordination:

Oversee patient preparation, procedure, and recovery processes.

Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Address patient concerns and ensure a high level of patient satisfaction.

-Budget and Financial Management:

Develop and manage the cath lab's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Prepare financial reports and analysis for upper management.

- Policy Development and Implementation:

Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.

Stay updated on the latest industry standards and integrate best practices into the cath lab operations.

Ensure staff adherence to all policies and procedures.

Key Relationships:- Internal Relationships:Cardiologists : Collaborate closely with medical professionals to ensure seamless patient care and optimal procedure outcomes.

Nursing Staff and Technologists: Lead and support the cath lab team, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.

Administrative Staff: Work with hospital administration on budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning.

Quality Assurance and Compliance Teams: Coordinate efforts to maintain high standards of care and compliance with regulatory requirements.

1. External Relationships:

Vendors and Suppliers: Manage relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers to ensure timely maintenance and procurement of necessary supplies.

Regulatory Bodies: Liaise with healthcare regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with industry standards and participate in audits and inspections.

Patients and Families: Serve as a key point of contact for patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing information about procedures and care plans.

2. Cross-Departmental Relationships:

Emergency Department: Coordinate care for patients requiring urgent cardiovascular interventions.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU): Collaborate on the care of critically ill patients requiring cath lab services.

Radiology Department: Work closely with radiologists for imaging needs and integration of diagnostic information.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive years post-registration clinical experience, including working in a cardiac centre in a specialised clinical area
  • Previous experience of managing staff, including recruitment, performance management and development of staff
  • Experience of overseeing capital budgets, including submission of funding bids / proposals
  • Experience of business planning process, including successful writing of business cases
  • Clear awareness of and previous involvement in Clinical governance processes
  • Experience of clinical audit and research and development projects
  • Awareness of international and national clinical development, staying updated on current research and national protocols / policies


Desirable

  • Previous experience of service development /planning


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to prioritise own workload and that of others as appropriate
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
  • Able to supervise non-registered and less experienced staff to ensure effective service and care delivery.
  • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
  • Demonstrates ability to keep up to date with professional issues that influence Therapy practice relating to area of clinical practice, management, education and research.
  • Able to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies/protocols/guidelines relevant to area of practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate qualification in healthcare management, or equivalent evidence of continuing professional development.
  • 1st level registration/Qualification in a relevant clinical speciality including nursing, Cardiac Physiology or Radiography
  • Teaching / mentoring qualification


Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience, Masters Qualification Preferred or working towards
