The post holder will provide assessment, treatment and a discharge service as part of an integrated multi-professional team working in an intermediate neuro rehab service based at Trafford General Hospital. The post holder is required to be flexible. The post holder will become an integral member of the ward multidisciplinary team, vital in delivery of care within a therapeutic framework. You will provide highly specialised, comprehensive occupational therapy assessments and interventions. The post holder is required to carry an independent caseload of patients and deliver occupational therapy intervention to a high standard, managing patients in an appropriate manner with the ethos to provide high quality patient focussed care alongside early proactive safe discharges. The service is currently delivered from 8am until 4pm alongside a weekend rota service, however flexible working will be considered.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform advanced OT assessment and interventions of patients with diverse presentations and complex neurological physical and psychological conditions, provide a therapeutic diagnosis and develop and deliver an assessment and treatment programme.
  • Undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. Supervision will be provided.
  • Regularly engage in goal setting and review meetings, identifying required interventions and treatments and planning for discharge in a timely manner.
  • Support ongoing development and delivery of services.
  • Supervise, educate and assess the performance of OT students & apprentices (as appropriate). This role is supported by access to a clinical educator's course as required.
  • Supervise, educate and assess the performance of junior members of the team with appropriate support from the senior OTs.
  • Undertake evidence based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice.

Essential

  • Graduate Diploma in OT
  • BSc /MSc Occupational Therapy
  • Health and Care Professions Council Registration
  • CPD portfolio


Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate course
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
  • Member of BAOT/COT
  • Clinical Educator's course


Experience

Essential

  • Previous NHS post graduate clinical experience or equivalent
  • A broad range of post graduate experience as a Band 5 or Band 6 in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Supervision and education of less experienced staff, students, or assistants
  • Experience around Complex Discharge and planning

  • Knowledge of working with patients with cognitive, visual, physical and behavioural impairments
