We are delighted to invite applications for the role of a Lead Simulation and Skill Technician within Worcester Acute Hospital Trust, Undergraduate Teaching Academy. The Lead role is also supported by a Clinical Skills and Simulation Support Technician.

This role comes at an exciting time within the Undergraduate Academy, with a recently refurbished simulation suite and plans for future expansion, including the opening of the Three Counties Medical School. We have a range of skills and simulation manikins, from neonates to elderly care, to help provide clinical skills teaching and high fidelity simulations to our undergraduate medical students including VR headsets.

This post supports our current clinical skills and simulation team in helping to provide administrative and technical expertise during simulations and teaching. The role is varied and exciting and involves inistu simulations as well as the delivery of the medical academy programme. Main duties of the job

The main purpose of the Lead Technician is to provide operational delivery of all technical aspects of clinical education across the organisation. The post holder will be confident with the use of A/V technology. The Lead will work with the undergraduate and postgraduate teams organising and delivering skills and simulation with the support of a technician. The role is varied and exciting. We are an expanding service and deliver education for three medical schools as well as postgraute edcuation for trainees.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Leads on and provides technical and operational support before, during and after simulation training activities. Is responsible for the delivery of Technology Enhanced Learning platforms.

Co-ordinates and leads on the operational management and administration of teaching sessions and associated events.

Is responsible for room bookings, diary management, faculty recruitment, timetabling of skills and simulation sessions and general administrative duties.

Synthesises data for use in simulation pre-briefing and debriefing, including audio-visual recordings, and other measurable outcomes.

Is the on-site subject matter expert in high-fidelity and Technology Enhanced Learning equipment and facilities, including manikins, moulage, mixed reality equipment, audio-visual systems and simulation environments.

Is able to work independently and autonomously delivering high standards of simulation based education.

Works alongside educational faculty to design, plan, test and evaluate simulation learning activities and scenarios across the organisation.

Provides technical support in the operation and troubleshooting of teleconferencing facilities across the training facilities to facilitate connectivity with external organisations and across the multiple sites.

Monitor service needs within agreed limits defined by managers.

Make effective contributions to strategic planning, reviewing of all equipment and implementing cost improvement schemes when necessary, eg consumable usage, highlighting new service potential.

Contributes and supports the Digital Media Officer in maintaining a social media presence in the promotion of events and WAHT as a centre of simulation excellence.

Responsible for ensuring each piece of equipment displays user-friendly guidelines that meet Trust and supplier recommendations.

Responsible for ensuring all equipment is appropriately cleaned and stored after use, and maintained to the highest standards of maintenance within the centres.

Responsible for replenishing all training devices after each session across the trust sites as delegated and replace consumables as required.

Responsible for monitoring the life span of the equipment and resources and making recommendations for purchasing new equipment.

Essential

  • Able to undertake a moderate degree of moving and handling duties.
  • Able to travel across sites.
  • Able to be flexible and adjust working times to accommodate occasional late finishes.


Qualifications

Essential

  • BTEC Diploma or higher in Audio visual/IT/technology or equivalent experience.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above or equivalent level of qualification and grade.
  • Completion of recognised training as a Simulation Technician.
  • Science Council/ASPiH registered Science Technician or commitment to achieve registration.


Desirable

  • RSCiTech Accreditation


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working with Audio Visual multimedia/Xtended Reality/Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality.
  • Proven experience of working with IT applications, in particular, databases & spreadsheets.
  • Experience of applying moulage techniques to support high fidelity simulation.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.


Desirable

  • Experience of working in medical education/simulation.
  • Experience of working in healthcare setting/clinical environment.


Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge of working with multimedia and Audio visual equipment.
  • Proven experience of working in simulation based education/IT/Audio visual.
  • Extensive knowledge of Simulation Based Education and associated methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative, conflict resolution and problem solve.
  • Confident ability to deliver presentations.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot issues with audio/visual systems and high fidelity manikins in order to ensure smooth running of simulation sessions.
  • Expert knowledge of educational technical systems.
  • Excellent administration and diary management.
  • Ability to plan, lead and organise.
  • Ability to independently organise and plan tasks to meet required deadlines.
  • Able to clearly articulate and effectively communicate specialist and technical information so that participants in simulation are able to use equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong ability to build effective working relationships with staff across the medical education team.
