Safeguarding Team Midwife
The post holder will act as a source of advice, support, and guidance on safeguarding and support the Named Midwife for Safeguarding and Specialist Midwife for safeguarding in ensuring that women with Safeguarding issues receive appropriate midwifery care, support and guidance, by assisting the midwifery services to develop and address the needs of this group in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care within the hospital and community areas.
The post will encompass elements of multi-agency working to include referrals to external agencies, audit, risk management, advisory elements, training, networking, policies, and procedures, supporting and formulating reports as well as having a knowledge base of safeguarding.
Main duties of the job
1. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.1 To provide advice and support to midwives and medical staff in developing care for families where there is concern for the safety of the unborn or delivered baby.
1.2 To work in partnership and collaboratively with the Named Midwife and Specialist Midwife for Safeguarding.
1.3 Provide advice and support to staff in situations deemed appropriate where there are complex needs including the co-ordination of multi-agency resources for individual clients in need.
1.4 Formulate new policies, procedures and update existing guidelines, in conjunction
with the Named Midwife and Specialist Midwife for Safeguarding to address the needs of women where safeguarding concerns are identified.
1.5 Where appropriate, act as a resource for members of the multidisciplinary team and external agencies e.g. social care and Police.
1.6 Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team to identify gaps in the service and work in conjunction with the named professionals, where possible to create additional initiatives to bridge those gaps.
1.7 Maintain and develop links with all local midwifery departments/areas
1.8 To adhere to record keeping procedures in accordance with Trust policy and NMC guidance.

2.1 Ensure timely completion of all documentation on required systems, both patient records and service databases.
2.2 Ensure appropriate referrals and achievement of relevant actions allocated are completed within agreed timescales.
2.3 Effectively manage available resources and participate in service development as required.
2.4 To assist and ensure that all data is collected and monitored as required for inclusion safeguarding assurance reports.
2.5 Ensure that all policies, guidelines, and protocols are adhered to.
2.6. Ensure effective dissemination of information to the multidisciplinary
team especially in areas relating to women/families that may have
complex health/social care needs which impact on the welfare of the
unborn child.
2.7 Attend any allocated ward, organisational and specialist meetings as deemed appropriate by the Named Midwife for Safeguarding.
2.8 Develop and support strategies which maintain confidentiality appropriately for women.
2.9 Participate in the clinical incident reporting system, `by escalating concerns, contributing to investigations, and ensuring that staff is fully aware of the process and outcomes from investigations.
2.10 Be a change agent by participating in and supporting change within
the maternity service.
2.11 Promote the safeguarding agenda of national and local policies, ensuring
care is evidence based.
