A fantastic opportunity to work in a friendly, highly-rated and forward-thinking critical care environment within a children's tertiary referral centre which is a receiving hospital for the regional major trauma network.

We're looking for highly motivated, newly qualified welcome as well as experienced Band 5 Theatre Practitioners in scrub, anaesthetic and PACU areas, rotation between the two areas. (ODP or RSCN/RGN).

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate(s) will be expected to work within a self-contained theatre team on a daily basis. They will report to a team leader in theatre and to a clinical lead with overall responsibility. They will also be line managed by a dedicated clinical lead who will support and coordinate their training and development with our excellent education team.

Our department provides services relating to neurosurgery, spinal surgery, ENT, rigid endoscopy, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, trauma/major incident, paediatric surgery, urology, thoracic surgery, plastics, maxillofacial surgery & paediatric dentistry. We have a total of 9 theatres and a procedure room which includes a state of the art dedicated Neurosurgery & Intraoperative MRI suite.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Degree or Diploma Level Education as Registered Nurse (RN Child / RSCN / RGN or ODP) Current registration with NMC/HCPC * Or Pending if newly qualified


Desirable

  • Teaching, mentoring and Assessors qualification Relevant Post Basic registration course Paediatric Life Support


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Role of Theatre Practitioner Accountability and Own limitations Principles of Health & Safety Safe Practices e.g. Lifting and Handling, Sharps, COSHH Principles of Infection Control Principles of Safeguarding of children Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to respect the cultural, social and religious diversity within society. Able to use own initiative Good decision making skills Effective interpersonal skills


Desirable

  • Ability to work within a team Understanding of the clinical governance agenda Health, Safety and Risk awareness Awareness of resource management Extended role skills eg IV practice Speciality Skills:Knowledge of surgical specialities. : Knowledge of Anaesthetic specialist procedures One to One Teaching

  • Post-registration experience in a paediatric theatre. Mentorship experience. Experience of working in other areas of surgery and critical care. Peripheral areas. MRI, CT , Resus and ED etc
