An exciting opportunity has arisen for a CAMHS Specialist Practitioner to join us at Westminster CAMHS. The post holder will sit within the Early Intervention Pathway at Westminster CAMHS, and spend 3 days a week co-located with Westminster Youth Justice Service.

The post holder will provide generic initial assessments, interventions, and case management within CAMHS. In addition, they will provide screening, consultation, advice, assessment and brief intervention to children entering the Youth Justice Service.

As a specialist member of the team, the post holder will offer support to junior colleagues through advice, supervision, and training. As well as act as a senior clinician within the pathway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will sit within the Early Intervention Pathway at Westminster CAMHS, providing generic initial assessments, interventions, and case management to children and families experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. As a senior member of the Early Intervention MDT, the post holder will offer their clinical expertise within the pathway to support junior clinicians and the wider service through activity such as supervision and training.

A portion of the post holders time will be spent co-located within Westminster Youth Justice Service, where they will offer screening, consultation, advice, assessment and brief intervention to children entering the Youth Justice Service. This post holder will work to compliment the existing supporting system within the youth justice service, and work closely with youth justice colleagues, and other co-located health specialists, to ensure that a the children's mental health is held in mind and supported where appropriate. The post holder will ensure that a young person in contact with the youth justice system will have the same access to a comprehensive health service (both mental and physical health) as any other young person within the general population.

Job responsibilities

• Undertaking health & communication screenings, assessments and treatment interventions with young people referred through the YJS, and signposting to other specialist services as required.
• Be competent in assessing and managing risk, including clinical as well as generic risk assessment and management.
• Provide treatment in a range of settings as determined by need, working collaboratively across the CAMHS directorate and partnership agencies.
• Continually delivering and maintaining high standards of service provision that is evidence based and in line with recognised best practice.
• Building trusting and positive therapeutic relationships to ensure service user involvement during the assessment and treatment process.
• Participating and leading in joint complex assessments with other disciplines and other agencies and providing reports for referrers, families and other agencies as required.
• Convening and attending team meetings, case conferences, etc. as required.
• Providing consultation, liaison and specialist advice to other professionals, agencies and services.
• Assisting in the development and delivery of child mental health related training programmes

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

• Recognised child and adolescent mental health professional qualification/registration (e.g. RMN, Degree/ Diploma or equivalent in Social Work BABCP accredited, HCPC accreditation
• Training in DBT

Desirable

• Mentorship Qualification/Supervisory Experience

Previous Experience

Essential

• Experience assessing and working with children experiencing mental health difficulties
• Experience of assessing and working with children in acute mental health crisis

Desirable

• Previous experience of working in a CAMHS setting.
• Pervious experience of working closely or within the youth justice system
• Experience of working in substance misuse use, particularly with young people.

Skills and knowledge

Essential

• Advanced knowledge and skills in relation to the assessment of children's mental health
• Ability to deliver evidence based psychological/ psychosocial interventions
• Ability to communicate at all levels, with the multi- disciplinary team, external agencies, and families

Desirable

• Knowledge of the youth justice system
