Main duties of the job

Report to the Operational Lead and Psychology Lead. The post holder will work with multidisciplinary teams that value psychological approaches. You will provide comprehensive psychological assessments, formulations and interventions. As part of the role, you will also contribute to the development and evaluation of specialist treatment programmes, tailored to the complex mental health and offending behaviour needs of this population. You will also use and develop your skills in the supervision of others undertaking psychological interventions. You will also have opportunities in research and evaluation, service improvement, consultation and training.

Candidates must be registered with the HCPC as a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist.

However, candidates who are close to qualification and eligibility to apply for HCPC registration are welcome to apply.

To provide psychological provision at Clayfields House (Childrens Secure Home) to help support Psychological Assessment, Formulation, Therapeutic Intervention and Evaluation of the young people living at Clayfields House. This will involve some direct 1-1 working with the young people who are aged 10 to 18 years, living at Clayfields House on remand, sentenced or placed on welfare grounds. It will also involve supporting the networks around the young people to understand and care for the young people supporting care and education staff via reflective practice, formulation meetings, consultation and providing training.

To work as part of the multidisciplinary Health team at Clayfields House alongside a senior Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Speech & Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Consultant Psychiatrist, Substance Misuse Nurse and Physical Health Nurses.

The post holder will be involved in the continued embedding of the Secure Stairs Framework into Clayfields House. This is a National Framework to support the development and maintenance of trauma informed secure settings for Young People. They will therefore use knowledge of Attachment Theory and Developmental Trauma to inform their practice.

The post will undertake research and audit to support the service development plan and targets for improved quality of care. The post will also advise, and support research activity undertaken within the MDT.

In conjunction with the MDT and where indicated, this post will support the planning of effective transition of young people from Clayfields to community care or other alternative care, through consultation and joint working. The post will consult where appropriate to other agencies on developing multi-agency care programmes to support the high level of need for this complex care group.

Person Specification

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional

Essential

• oPost graduate doctorate in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS Or Masters degree in Forensic Psychology approved by the HCPC and then a Doctorate in Forensic Psychology from a HCPC-accredited doctoral programme
• o Current registration with HCPC (or planned if currently on a Training course)

Desirable

• Further relevant pre or post-qualification training. For example: oDyadic Developmental Psychotherapy oAttachment Theory oSystemic or Family Therapy o CBT/DBT oCAT, Narrative, CFT, ACT o Psychological models of assessing and treating PTSD e.g. EMDR

• Experience of working with young people with mental health difficulties and their families/carers.
• Experience off effective multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working.

• oExperience of assessment and formulation of individuals whose life experiences have been traumatic and/or abusive
• oExperience of Delivering questionnaires/routine outcome measures or standardised psychometric tests (such as the testing of cognition) and analysing these.
