This is a really exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Psychologist to be at the forefront of the development of a new multi disciplinary Learning Disability and Autism team across Hampshire. Having been successful to expand our provision to children with Learning Disabilities, we are looking for a psychologist to work alongside the clinical lead and other disciplines in developing the psychological offer for the young people we work with. The post holder will also help with the development of pathways and shaping the culture of the team. The team are keen on developing the psychology provision across the county, and providing effective supervision, training and leadership will be an ongoing part of this exciting role.

You will get to join a small group of dedicated and skilled professionals to develop a wider service from the ground up, so that these children and their families can receive best practice in the support they need for their mental health and challenging behaviour. Historically the offer has mainly been Learning Disability nurses and therefore the team are really excited at the prospect of building up the multi-disciplinary team. The team has recently recruited an occupational therapist and speech and language therapist. We are hopeful of being able to add and look forward to finding an experienced psychologist to share the excitement and the opportunity with us.

We would consider Band 7 to Band 8a development post in order to get the right applicant.

Main duties of the job

As a multi-disciplinary team member for the LD/A service you will provide specialist expertise to understand and support the complex mental health and behavioural needs of children and young people with learning disabilities and/or Autism.

You will work as an active member of a team, contributing expertise within your specialist area to develop the service and also providing clinical skills for assessment and interventions.

Contributing to the management of a team caseload of clients with complex needs, you will provide consultation, specialist assessments, recommendations and interventions as appropriate to your role. We follow a multi-disciplinary approach and as such you will provide specialist assessment and intervention with specific responsibilities within your specialist profession.

You will receive regular supervision from a senior Psychologist within Hampshire CAMHS, and will have opportunities to link with other Child Psychologists in the trust, as well as access to training opportunities offered by Southern Health Foundation Trust. We would also encourage external informal links with other specialist services to share best practice.

Across the county we are a friendly and fun psychology service, with core values of Compassion, Authenticity, Hope, Commitment, Integrity and Safety and we welcome new psychologists who share these values and can bring their own strengths and passions to the service.
