An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our community Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (FCAMHS).

The FCAMHS community team base is in Peterborough and there is also a second base in Cambridge, but there is the opportunity for working at home.

The service is regional covering the East of England region (Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire). This dynamic service works in partnership with wider agencies to ensure integrated care provision across health, social care, education and youth justice to optimise the outcomes for children/young people who present with high risk and/or concerning behaviours and where mental health and/or neurodevelopmental concerns are suspected.

Main duties of the job

The post holder part will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and will have the support of a Senior Leadership Team that includes a Consultant Psychiatrist and Consultant Psychologist.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability and an ability to work flexibility using initiative. You should possess excellent communication skills and be confident to liaise with other professionals as necessary.

We will provide the necessary support to ensure development within the role and any future ambitions.

Job responsibilities

Assist in conducting audits, collecting data and statistics, development of audit and/or research projects.

Support FCAMHS colleagues with the internal and external training programme.

Liaise with children/young people and families/carers to develop co production

Work alongside FCAMHS colleagues to undertake cognitive and psychometric assessment with children/young people and their parents/carers.

Score and to write up reports for cognitive assessments/other psychometric assessments.

Assist the multi-disciplinary team in meeting the needs of children/young people referred to FCAMHS through developing psychological formulations, building chronologies and attending relevant multiagency meetings.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential

• An upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology
• Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
• Further post graduate training or degree in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

Essential

• oExperience of working with children who have mental health difficulties.
• oExperience of psychometric testing and scoring.
• oPrevious experience of working as an assistant psychologist or equivalent
• oExperience of working in an NHS mental health setting
• oExperience of assisting in the production of audits or service evaluation projects
• oExperience of completing risk assessments

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

• An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge, underpinned by theory to a mental health context
• High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
• An awareness of relevant, evidence-based practice as detailed in NICE guidance.
• Expertise within specialism, underpinned by theory, Knowledge acquired through degree, supplemented by short specialist courses, clinical supervision of practice
• Ability to prepare for and use supervision appropriately and effectively
