An opportunity has arisen for a Lead Therapist to work within our clinical leadership team. Wellbeing Norfolk and Waveney is an enhanced Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service which is delivered as part of a well-established partnership between Norfolk & Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT), Mind and Relate. We provide high volume, evidence-based psychosocial treatments for people aged 16 upwards with common mental health problems of anxiety and low mood.

We are a large and expanding service. This year we will offer a range of psychological, employment and social interventions to over 30,000 people.The lead therapists play a key role in ensuring that these interventions are delivered in line with national guidance, in order to help us meet the Key Performance Indicators of an IAPT service.

We have worked from home during the pandemic, but we are gradually moving back to face to face working whilst retaining some of the positives of remote working where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Therapists work as part of a clinical and operational leadership team in a service which is constantly developing. Each Lead Therapist has clinical oversight of specific aspects of the service, ensuring we continue to deliver high quality, evidence based interventions and that our clinical staff remain highly skilled and well supported. The Lead Therapists offer Clinical Supervision and Supervision of Supervision to our Senior PWPs and CBT / Counselling supervisors, to ensure the supervision offered to our clinicians is of a high quality. The role also includes liaison and case discussions with colleagues in other Trust teams.

The successful candidate will be an accredited therapist (BABCP, BACP, UKCP) with extensive experience of working as a High Intensity Therapist / Counsellor and delivering supervision to other IAPT practitioners.

The post holder will be expected to work from team bases some of the time, and/or to travel within Norfolk as required.

Person Specification
  • Post Graduate Training in CBT or Counselling to diploma, masters or doctorate level OR Professional degree level qualification in a related field (eg Nursing, Psychology and extensive experience delivery psychological therapies to an equivalent level Or Postgraduate Doctorate degree

  • PWP training, Leadership Training

  • Extensive experience of working in psychological setting with patients with common mental health disorders
  • Experience of treating patients with a range of presentations

  • Experience of working in a service where there are agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes (e.g. IAPT service).

  • Full range of skills and competencies as laid out in the relevant competence framework (Roth and Piling)
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively.

  • Trained in provision of supervision for CBT/Counselling

  • Able to attend supervision training if not already trained

  • Experience of delivering training sessions to large groups of staff

Other requirements
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation for working within a dynamic and fast moving service/clinical context

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of specialist mental health services for the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, serving a population of 1.6 million people.
