HMP Cardiff is a category B remand prison for men, with a maximum capacity of 760, with the average length of stay varying from weeks to months. Men are received into prison 6 days a week.
The Head of Healthcare will work in collaboration with the Locality Manager, Clinical Director and Governor to promote , develop and operationally manage healthcare services within HMP Cardiff.
The Healthcare Team consists of salaried GPs, nurses and practitioners specialised in substance misuse, mental and general nursing, Pharmacists and Technicians, Healthcare Support Workers, Admin and Management Staff. In reach care is also provided on a sessional basis by Sexual Health, Optometry, Dental and Secondary Care Mental Health.
There is a dedicated 22 bedded Healthcare Unit, staff 24/7, plus provision of primary care services Monday-Friday.
The Healthcare Service is required to provide care equivalent to that which is available in a community setting.
To fulfil the requirements of this post, we are seeking an experienced clinical or managerial lead, who has a proven track record of success working in a secure setting and/or as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team in a leadership role.
The post holder must have a genuine interest in working to improve the health and lives of people who enter Prison, with a focus on rehabilitation and delivery of patient centred care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day operational management of a dynamic multi- disciplinary team, delivering robust health care services to a vulnerable population with many complex needs.
The postholder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and efficient care, supported by a Senior Nurse and the Clinical Director and managerially accountable for a delegated budget, workforce management and delivery of required health care standards (eg mental Health standards).
They will play a pivotal role in the strategic development of the Healthcare Service in HMP Cardiff.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
