Are you a registered Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist or accredited Psychotherapist with post qualification experience in cancer (or physical health) care?
We are recruiting to a Band 8B 0.6wte role to act as Deputy Service Lead of the Adult Psychological Support Service at The Royal Marsden Hospital. It is based at our Sutton site and therefore attracts outer-London weighting.
The role will be focused on service leadership and management, but will still have time for clinical work. Please note that due to the requirements of the role, opportunities for home working will be limited.
You will be joining a supportive and friendly team of qualified and trainee psychological practitioners, including, counselling/ psychotherapy, psychology, psychosexual therapy as well as liaison psychiatry and mental health nursing. There is excellent internal and external CPD provision.

Main duties of the job
- To assist the Consultant Clinical Psychologist in leading the day-to-day delivery of the Adult Psychological Support Service to ensure a high-quality service using resources as efficiently as possible.
- Line management of Adult Psychological Support Service staff.
- Deputise for the Consultant Clinical Psychologist to provide professional leadership for the practitioner psychological therapists working within the Adult Psychological Support Service.
- Clinically oversee and coordinate the work of other staff delivering psychological services within the team.
- Provide clinical supervision to staff within the service.
- Utilize research skills for audit, policy and development of psychological services for patients with cancer.
- Contribute to the service's operating plans and policies.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the Adult Psychological Support Service on matters relating to psychology/ psychotherapy.
- Will work autonomously, within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team/trust policies and procedures.

- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner in both written and verbal form, complex information concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plan of the patient to professionals involved in the care of patients and directly to patients, carers and families who may be in a high degree of distress. To maintain a high degree of professionalism and to respect cultural diversity and be aware of the possible vulnerable and disempowered nature of patients and families at all times.
- To exercise full autonomous professional responsibility and coordination of workload for own assessment, treatment and discharge of patients following clinical psychology interventions, communicating with the referrer and others involved in the patient care as required. This should be carried out with appropriate supervision and professional management as per professional body guidelines.
- To provide highly specialised psychological formulations, advice, and consultation, integrating specialist knowledge of complex mental health disorders and physical health, to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by other professionals working with this group of patients across hospital and community settings. This may include attendance at multidisciplinary and/or multiagency meetings and reviews, as well as providing reports.
- To ensure that members of the multidisciplinary teams working with a client group, with cancer have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding clients difficulties through the provision of advice and consultations, and the dissemination of psychological research and theory.

Essential
- Post-Graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), accredited by the BPS
- Registration with Health Care Professions Council as Clinical or Counselling Psychologist
- Master's Degree training in psychotherapy
- Accredited with UK psychotherapy professional body, e.g. UK Council for Psychotherapy, British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists
