The Specialist Nurse for Children Looked After (CLA) will contribute to the identification and assessment of the health needs of children and young people in the care of the London Borough of Camden, regardless of geographical placement.
The post-holder will work closely with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals within the Camden CLA Health Team, taking responsibility for an agreed caseload. They will offer a direct clinical service to children and young people, as well as providing support and education to carers, other health services and our partners in social care.

Main duties of the job
- To ensure that statutory review health assessments (RHAs) are carried out in a timely manner for children and young people in foster placements, residential units and other placements this involves travel both within and outside of London.
- To assess the holistic health and well-being needs of individual children and young people, providing them with age-appropriate information and advice, signposting or making referrals to other services where necessary.
- To provide tailored information on, as well as facilitate access to, the Healthy Child and childhood vaccination programmes.
- To support the Named Nurse in ensuring that appropriate systems and working practices are in place to collect and analyse health data about Camden CLA.
- To take an active role in service audits and clinical governance activities.
- To provide specific advice, training and support to staff in health and partner agencies that are providing care / services to Camden CLA.
- To take an active role in identifying and preventing child abuse, participating in multiagency safeguarding procedures as appropriate.
