Band 8a - Lead Nurse Urology Services & Advance Practitioners
A new and exciting 12-month fixed term/Secondment opportunity has arisen with the urology service. This role has been created to lead a brand new project to establish a same day, nurse led rapid access diagnostic service for urology cancers.
This is a completely new approach to on the day diagnostics for west Herts and represents an incredible opportunity to be involved in the leadership and development of a new diagnostic model.
This post has been created to support delivery of improvement against national cancer waiting time targets, through nurse led care which to align with best practise timed pathways.
This is a full-time role where you will be required to work core hours Monday - Friday with activity spread across all three sites.
Main duties of the job
This role is one of two ANP roles within the service. The roles are responsible for leading on nurse-led care within the urology service such as running independent one stop biopsy, flexible cystoscopy and result clinics.

Job responsibilities
This role requires working closely with the urology clinical teams, cancer lead, deputy head of nursing, Assistant divisional manager, cancer nurse specialists, clinical nurse specialists and pathway navigators to deliver nurse led care to urology patients on a cancer pathway.
The role will require you to run clinics independently and lead on innovative ideas to improve services. You will be responsible for the triage of suspected urology cancer referrals and will need to work closely with the urology cancer navigators to ensure performance is met.
The post holder will play a vital part in the service improvement and transformation work being under-taken in the urology service. This post will provide experience in delivering service changes with proven benefits.

- 1ST level NMC registration
- BSc (HONS) nursing degree in relevant discipline or working towards.
- Teaching & assessing qualification and experience.
- Urology or cancer course.
- Continuing personal, professional, and academic development.
Desirable
- Master's degree
- Oncology qualification
- Diploma in counselling
- Non-medical Prescriber.
- IRMER.
- Advance communication course.
- Surgical Care Practitioner course or equivalent.
- Peri-Operative practitioner course

- Significant experience leading and managing clinical teams.
- Evidence of specialist skills gained through theoretical knowledge
- Experience of mentoring and developing staff
- Experience in stake holder negotiation and consultation
