Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you an experienced, senior HCPC registered practitioner psychologist with an interest in neuropsychology, mental health and health psychology. Do you want to work the renowned Mildmay Hospital team in Shoreditch?

We are looking for a person to work in partnership, based at the Mildmay Hospital. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes: nursing (physical and MH), OT, SLT, physio, dietetics, doctors, psychiatry, art therapy, social work & substance misuse worker.

About the Mildmay Hospital

The Mildmay UK is a 28-bed unit in which historically specialised in the provision of holistic, multidisciplinary rehabilitation and respite care for patients with a diagnosis of HIV. In 2020 Mildmay developed a new care pathway, specialising in providing holistic step-down inpatient care to people who are homeless. Patients are admitted from acute hospitals when medically stable, but homeless with a history of tri-morbidity, i.e., health, mental health and substance misuse needs. The Mildmay also has a Detox Pathway, providing stabilisation-based intermediate residential rehabilitation for unhoused people and/or are at risk of returning to the streets. These people have recently completed detox therapy for substance misuse and alcohol and require ongoing stabilisation.

Many people accessing the Mildmay's services present with cognitive impairments due to range of causes.

Main duties of the job

Psychology plays a highly valued role within the Mildmay both in terms of direct client work as well as indirect work with the staff group.

The post holder will be employed by East London Foundation Trust, receiving supervision and line management in that organisation. However, they will be a part of the Mildmay MDT and input into the team's decision making and service developments. Therefore the candidate will need experience of working autonomously whilst contributing to work with a range of senior clinicians.

The post holder would have access to a monthly ELFT neuropsychology supervision group. As the post holder is directly employed by ELFT they would also have access to all the usual NHS governance frameworks and support.

Job responsibilities

The role includes:
  • undertaking psychological, cognitive and neuropsychological assessments, leading to recommendations and interventions
  • undertaking risk assessments and implement safety plans
  • provide brief individual and group based interventions
  • provide supervision/line management of trainee clinical psychologists and others
  • support the MDT via consultation and joint formulations
  • design and deliver staff training (including MDT, as well as estates and facilities staff)
  • undertaking leadership roles and service development work.


Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • Post Graduate Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or equivalent accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).
  • Clinical supervision training for doctoral clinical /counselling psychology trainees.
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)


Desirable

  • Further training in neuropsychology


Experience

Essential

  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified Clinical or Counselling psychologist at a highly specialist level preferably in the NHS or similar public health provider.
  • Experience of working as a specialist clinical psychologist in a relevant health setting and with the target, or similar populations
  • Experience of using neuropsychological assessment to inform care planning
  • Supporting MDT colleagues to formulate to incorporate a range of clinical perspectives
  • Designing and developing staff training


Desirable

  • Experience of working in a culturally sensitive manner, including working with interpreters


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Developed knowledge of range of psychological therapies, psychiatric assessment and treatment related disorders such as Eating Disorders, Substance Abuse
  • Co production of care and treatment with service users and carers
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, psychological formulation, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. This requires the use of highly developed analytical and judgement skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain effective relationships with a range of professionals and services.


Desirable

  • Experience faciliatating reflective practice and team development activities
