Full time (37.5hrs) Band 5 Senior Assistant Psychologist

Ideal opportunity to gain further experience working alongside a practitioner psychologist in a busy clinical environment, developing and delivering specialist neuropsychology services to an inpatient stroke unit.

Will strengthen further applications to professional training courses for the psychological professions e.g. Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychology doctoral programmes

You must already have some experience in working clinically in relevant area following completion of a recognised undergraduate degree in Psychology (conferring GBR with the British Psychological Society)

Main duties of the job

Provision of neuropsychological assessments, interventions (behavioural and/or cognitive), report writing, representing psychology at MDTs, audits, teaching and project work (where appropriate).

Strong clinically focused skills required to work in an intensive environment with a range of healthcare professionals to deliver high quality care to those affected by stroke.

Significant degree of autonomy will be expected from postholder as the only fulltime member of the psychology team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oAn upper second-class honours degree or higher in psychology
  • oEntitlement to graduate basis for chartership membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society


Desirable

  • oFurther post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.


Experience

Essential

  • oExperience of working with people with neurological and/or mental health problems and/or other relevant health disabilities
  • oExperience of working as an assistant psychologist / research assistant or equivalent
  • oExperience of working independently and liaising with other healthcare workers


Desirable

  • oExperience of working with patients in an Acute hospital setting


Knowledge

Essential

  • oAn understanding of psychology applied to health care.
  • oKnowledge of neuropsychological issues and assessment
  • oKnowledge of abnormal psychology and CBT


Skills

Essential

  • oHigh level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
  • oAbility to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues in an appropriate way
  • oAbility to produce reports under supervision to a high standard
  • oAn ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health and/or a neuropsychology service context
