An exciting opportunity has arisen within the General Surgery department for a motivated and dynamic Band 7 Registered Nurse to set up a new Thyroid Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist service. You will be the patients key worker, providing holistic care and support throughout their surgical and oncological treatment for their Thyroid Cancer as well as their long term follow up. As the patients advocate you will be with the patient from initial diagnosis, responsible for attending MDT meetings and ensuring all investigations are undertaken and reported in a timely manner to ensure gold standard care is delivered throughout treatment.

You will set up and run nurse-led clinics to support patients from diagnosis, during their treatment and post operatively. You will be required to demonstrate your autonomy with complex cases and have the initiative for when appropriate to refer back to consultant care.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work with the Consultant Endocrine Surgeon to set up nurse-led clinics and procedure documents to support the evolving service.

The post holder will:

Be the key worker and first point of call for specialist advice, education, and support as a resource for ongoing care needs, alongside other team members.

Provide psychological support to patients and carers along the pathway and signposting to appropriate services for additional needs.

Partake in MDT (Multi-disciplinary team) meetings and acting as patient advocate, ensuring the holistic needs of the patient are considered during discussions.

Review medications and blood results, usually by telephone, and liaising with the medical teams as appropriate.

Provide information and education to patients and other health care professionals.

Participation in professional development is encouraged and training will be available in the role. A post graduate education level is required for the role, so the post holder must have relevant education or be willing to work towards it.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
