This exciting role is based within the intensive inpatient rehabilitation service in North Devon. It forms part of the Rehabilitation and Recovery service which is designed to meet the needs of a cohort of adults with complex psychosis.
The 8 bedded ward environment has been newly refurbished and aims to support a person on their recovery journey. The team aims to enable a person to develop and maintain their roles, routine and functioning, focussing on their individual goals in a person centred and holistic manner.
The post holder will be working in a friendly and supportive environment, with a focus on providing the very best patient care in a locality combining sea, moor, history and opportunity.
This is a part time 30 hour per week post
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the team. The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team across a 7 day service and be will be responsible for completing evidence based assessments and interventions with our service users.
The applicant will have responsibility for a defined caseload of patients with complex mental health needs, alongside contributing to team and service development. The post holder will be supported to develop knowledge of relevant legislation, the use of occupational therapy models and interventions for mental illness, whilst becoming skilled in liaising with the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies.
The successful post holder will need to have a passion for working with adults with mental health conditions, whilst being flexible, motivated and a team player.
The post holder will be required to have a high level of adaptable communication skills, be compassionate, respectful and value individual patient needs. They will have the ability to recognise and manage challenging situations in a calm and professional manner, be resilient and emotionally intelligent and engage positively with service users and their families and carers.

To work in collaboration with the Ocean View multi-disciplinary team, to develop robust discharge plans with and for service users. This will involve working with service users from admission to the ward, through their in-patient stay, and post-discharge in the community.
The post holder will apply the core principles of recovery in discharge planning and preparation, supporting the multi-disciplinary team to help service users to develop and practice essential skills for independent living.
The post holder will support the initial assessment and discharge action planning for service users admitted to the ward, and provide follow through support once they have been discharged. The postholder will work closely with the social care assessment team on the social care pathway.

- Knowledge of the needs and difficulties of people who experience mental health problems and an understanding of current mental health services.
- Understanding of the practice of Occupational Therapy in the context of mental health rehabilitation
- Understanding of Recovery principles
- Experience of the practice and principles of risk assessment and positive risk management
