Band 7 Highly Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist
Community Paediatric Physiotherapy 22.5 hours/week
12 months Maternity Cover to start November 2024
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Community Paediatric Physiotherapy team at Chelsea and Westminster trust. A fixed term full time band 7 post has become available. The post will be working within a friendly, progressive and established team which sees children from 0-19 years in homes, clinics, nurseries and schools. We provide high quality, family-centred care to children and young people within the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, South Kensington and Chelsea, and South Westminster. We are based at the Cheyne Child Development Service which has clinics at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Parkview Health Centre in White City.You will apply your clinical skills in delivering hands-on physiotherapy, thereby ensuring the provision of a high standard of assessment, treatment and advice to a manageable caseload of children, young people and their families. This post comes with excellent learning/training and development opportunities both within and external to the trust. This includes support to develop your skills with children with neuro-disabilities from an expert practitioner.
Main duties of the job
You will carry a manageable caseload of children aged 0-19 years and be responsible for clinics, providing early intervention, over 3s, and services to children with cerebral palsy or other neuro-disabilities. This may include hydrotherapy and working jointly in an orthotics clinic. This will include joint working with the multi-disciplinary team, consultant paediatricians and physiotherapy orthopaedic practitioners. Good established links with equipment providers are in place. You should have paediatric experience with demonstrable knowledge of specific paediatric assessments and interventions, able to prioritise your workload and time, and support others to do the same. Experience in early intervention and follow up would be beneficial. Good communication skills are essential, as you will be working independently and alongside other health and social care professionals supervising band 6s, assistants and students.Chelsea and Westminster therapy department is committed to evidence based practice and the development of clinical skills are supported through a programme of regular in-service training, supervision and appraisal.

Job Summary To be responsible for and coordinate the day to day delivery of physiotherapy provision within the paediatric community team based at Chelsea and Westminster hospital and Parkview Health Centre. To work as an autonomous practitioner in providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a designated caseload and maintain up to date physiotherapy records To work as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team providing a holistic service to the child and their family/carer To use evidence based principles/current best practice and specialist skills to assess, plan implement and evaluate interventions and to ensure that all junior members of your team do likewise To participate in CPD and other developmental activities and encourage all members of your team to do accordingly To be responsible for the supervision, teaching and day to day line management of allocated junior staff and students on clinical placement To participate in or lead service development projects including research and audit
Main Duties
To undertake highly specialised physiotherapy assessments, using appropriate therapy techniques and therapeutic handling skills to form diagnoses and/or establish impairments/disabilities. To use good communication skills to agree therapy goals with individual patients and families/carers and school staff using previous experience to ensure goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, resourced and appropriately timed. To monitor and evaluate treatment measuring progress to ensure effective intervention and identify when treatment requires modifying. To use in-depth clinical reasoning, comprehensive understanding of complex paediatric conditions, and wide-ranging knowledge of treatment options to plan and implement individual therapy programmes and treatment protocols, using highly developed therapy treatment techniques and therapeutic handling skills that are age appropriate. To support more junior staff in the development of their assessment, treatment and clinical reasoning skills to ensure a high standard of care.
