Clinical or Counselling Psychology Posts

As a result of significant investment in Bexley CAMHS we are able to offer multiple Clinical or Counselling Psychology posts which are available as either band 8a or band 7-8a preceptorships. Both full and part time applicants are welcome.

Main duties of the job

Bexley CAMHS is currently in the process of a redesign to align with the Thrive framework to ensure timely, responsive and needs based mental health interventions for the children and young people in Bexley. Postholders will contribute to initial assessment clinics which will be robustly supported through post assessment multi-disciplinary case discussions. They will provide evidence based psychological therapies and undertake goal-based case management for a proportion of cases. They will contribute psychological thinking into the work of this busy, friendly multi-disciplinary service and will supervise the clinical work of assistant psychologists, trainees and other professionals. They will be encouraged to develop and lead on creative service development initiatives which meet the needs of the population. In addition to posts working with children, young people and families presentation with the full range of CAMHS presentations, we are also interested in recruiting psychologists with specialist interests and skills in working with looked after and adopted children and/or in an AMBIT & MBT-A team for young people presenting with high risk.

All applicants are able to access in house and external CAMHS specific training and well as CPD provided and supported by Psychological Therapies (see below for more details.

CAMHS Training opportunities

We recognise that you may not have previous experience of working within CAMHS. This should not be seen as a barrier to you considering joining our service. Through a supportive induction process, we will work with you to identify your transferrable skills. The induction plan will be adapted to support developing areas you may not feel as confident in. In addition to this, we will support you to access additional training that will support your development and confidence.

We also have close links with the Anna Freud Centre and Greenwich University with post graduate module and full courses available.

Psychology Discipline Opportunities

Oxleas provides an internal CPD programme for psychological therapists for the first two years post qualification and attendance at this is prioritised in job plans.

Postholders will be required to attend supervisor training at Salomons Clinical Psychology training programme and will contribute to placements for clinical psychology trainees.

In addition, we have ring fenced funding in the following psychological therapies which is attached to these posts. All postholder appointed into a band 7-8a preceptorship are guaranteed access to one of these within their first two years in post as well as to specialist individual or group supervision in the approach.

Person Specification Essential Essential

• Vaccination The successful applicant will have contact with clients and service users and it is therefore expected that the applicant are fully vaccinated.

Desirable

• This now a legal requirement.

Professional Qualifications Essential

• Doctorate training in clinical psychology, accredited by the BPS
• Current HCPC registration

Desirable

• Pre-qualification training in research methods and/or other fields of applied psychology

Experience/Knowledge/Skills Essential

• Experience of psychological assessment and treatment across care settings
• Knowledge of child protection, child in need and looked-after children legislation and procedures
• Well-developed verbal and written communications skills
