Are you an orthoptist with a special interest in complex paediatric orthoptics? Are you looking for a challenging new role in a hospital setting, with an exciting mix of clinical development, research and an interesting workload? If so, we have a great opportunity for you here at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
This position is a great opportunity for newly qualified or qualified Orthoptist looking to gain experience and is an excellent opportunity to develop your Orthoptic skills in a forward thinking, progressive and supportive ophthalmology department of a tertiary referral centre.
New graduate orthoptists are also welcome to apply and will be appointed at Band 5 level and will work through a clinical skills toolkit via the BIOS preceptorship framework to help their career development and the Band 5/Band 6 run through as appropriate.
Come and join our passionate and dedicated team of ophthalmic professionals, providing high standards of patient care. You will be given high quality training opportunities, with close clinical supervision, and opportunities to share knowledge to others within the team.
Main duties of the job
To work within the multi-disciplinary team working autonomously as an orthoptist managing a wide and complex paediatric clinical caseload within Great Ormond Street Hospital
To provide Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner to assess, diagnose and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic departments within Great Ormond Street Hospital
To undertake clinical audit and to take responsibility for own continuing professional development.
The post-holder will be supported by the Head Orthoptist and 6 further Orthoptists, along with 8 Consultant Ophthalmologists, optometrists, visual scientists and clinical nurse specialists.
As the role requires communication and liaison with patients with complex conditions, other clinical departments, both within the hospital and other trust, advanced communication and inter-personal skills are paramount.
The candidate must therefore have a current UK Orthoptic Qualification and registered with the HCPC.
